Video : Golden Poinsettia – Penny Black

One of the most beautiful ‘flowers’ ever and so perfect on a Christmas card, especially in ‘gold’.  Our Poinsettias have just finished flowering as we are now heading into Spring / Summer here, but they do add such a brightness to the garden, actually I have a memory that they are not flowers but that they are coloured leaves?  Do you know, or did I dream that?  Oh, and I also decided to film as I coloured.

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at Youtube.

  1. A really stunning card, Therese! I love the effect you created with your pencils…your gold Poinsettia is so elegant!

  2. WOW Therese ! Your card is just breathtaking ! A non-traditional color for a poinsettia but even more outstanding ! What a gorgeous coloring you made ! I love watching you coloring ! Thanks for sharing.

  3. New Subscriber to your You Tube channel. It’s great to see Southern Hemisphere card makers 😄 as I was hoping there would be more links to local suppliers. Could you link to Aussie Kiwi suppliers at all??? I see you have a couple of SBB links but it would be great to see all local alternatives. It’s so expensive otherwise. Just a thought. Love your cards BTW

  4. Oh my, that’s really, really beautiful! Your colouring is just amazing Therese. Just love your videos and your explanations of what you are doing – very helpful. Are your poinsettias really large shrubs/trees? Maybe that’s what I saw recently in Queensland. We only know them as little potted plants at Christmas here. Thank for sharing.

    1. Hi Mary,
Yes, our poinsettias are very large shrubs / small trees here and they come in such beautiful colours. Someone just wrote and told me that they saw a ‘fuchsia’ coloured one that was called a Princessettia, sounds amazing and great colour option too! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment and visit (ps you could have come round for a cuppa if you were nearby…. maybe next time) Crafty Hugs, Therese

  5. Therese, I had bypassed this stamp when I saw it – now I am having second thoughts! I had never considered it in gold – but it is stunning, especially the way you colored it. Beautiful

  6. Beautifully done, my dear. ☺ You have a unique way of looking at stamps and colouring and you keep amazing me and inspiring me. Thanks.

  7. Beautiful card! The stamps are great! I would not have thought to color this image with color pencils but it is amazing . I love the way you think .

  8. Ohh my goodness Therese this card is absolutely stunning.. First time I have ever looked at a poisettia and wanted the stamp. Stunning

  9. Wow that is so beautiful Therese – must watch the vid to see how you coloured it. Happy Wednesday!

  10. So gorgeous, Therese! It’s a beautiful, subtle gold and that deep brown really does give it great depth! I should be working right now, but watching your video is so much more fun! I hope you are having a lovely spring!

  11. As always, Therese, you take my breath away! Thank you for all you do to keep us inspired through your blog and your videos!! Hugs, Darnell

  12. Oh Therese, you are so talented! Your card is absolutely STUNNING and it takes my breath away too! Thanks for the video and for sharing the colors you used. Can’t wait to see your next creation!

  13. You think you are babbling…………I think I can see and hear an artist at work explaining your thought process. Your card is stunning. Enjoy your Spring, we in Michigan are into Autumn and your lovely card speaks volumes to me. Thank you.

  14. Wow, Therese … your elegant golden Poinsettia is just beautiful … such stunning colouring … a joy to watch, thank you! You’re right, the flowers on a Poinsettia are the yellow centres … the rest (whatever the colour!) are a modified leaf! Hugs, Anita 🙂

  15. I love your art so much! I think I want to case this for my Christmas card! Is that ok? I have searched everywhere online and can’t find the “deep totally tan” Colormates cardstock. Do you have a source? Or do you have an alternative that is close to the color? I want the cardstock to bring out peanut brittle ink color also like you did, perfect!. I will get the peanut brittle mementoluxe ink, found it. I appreciate your help. Any current cardstock online that I can get in US is fine with me.

Hope all is well with you!

I really appreciate any help you can give me. I already got the prisma pencils.

    1. Hi Nancy,
I would be so happy if you case this design for your Christmas card! The totally tan cardstock is very old and was just in my stash and the closest colour that I can find in the American Crafts cardstock is called ‘Mustard’ although it is slightly more orange, but it will give you an idea of the basic shade. I used the Memento dye Peanut Brittle ink, not the luxe but if you would prefer the pigment ink then you could certainly try it, I guess it will just take a little longer to dry. Hope this is helpful, thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to leave me such a beautiful comment. Hugs Therese

      1. Thank you, you are so gracious with your time and help. Thanks for the tip on the ink! I would have been spending a lot of time watching ink dry! Now, I will get the dye color vs the pigment. Have a great day! I will look at the cardstock for sure. I will buy the ink and then just match from there after coloring!
        You are the best!

  16. Ps bazillibasics has lots of cardstock that Lois light color might be close. Do you have any of that?

  17. Stunning beauty.I often see the traditional red but never the gold and this is just GORGEOUS.

  18. Stunning card! I appreciate the tips you gave in the video. It was amazing to see the difference between the original stamped image and the same image after you had used the colored pencils. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  19. I got this stamp and thought I would do it in the reds but you changed my mind! It is absolutely beautiful! I wonder if you could tell me what color prisma color pencils you used? I know you did this a few years ago but hopefully you can help me.

    1. Hi Dianne. I am travelling at the moment and using my phone to answer (which I struggle with haha). But I usually list all of the pencil colours that I use in my post. If you scroll down beneath my signature you should find a heading ‘Other Supplies’ and this is where I type the name of the actual pencils that I used for the image. If you are coming from YouTube the link to the post can be found if you click on the ‘Show More’ section and scroll down. It’s linked above my name. Hope this helps. Crafty hugs Therese
