Back with another fun image from the Katzlkraft’s Les Jungles set. I finally got to play with the elephant (the reason that I bought this set) and what a cutie he is, he looks so un’happy’ that it’s his birthday so I thought it was perfect to have a bright cheery card! I decided to film the process, and there were a couple of hiccoughs along the way…. but you can see those for yourself lol.

Actually, I thought the original gel highlights were fine, but really like the different patterns on the letters. The first thing I thought of to show dimension was glossy accents.

I bought the MFT ‘Happy’ die at the local craft show in Australia earlier this year and am thinking that it’s now been retired (that’s how long it takes for us to get things here in Australia sometimes lol). But there is good news with the stamp set, even though I’ve heard that it hasn’t been available in the US I have bought (and know some US crafters) that have bought direct from the company and they are fantastic to deal with, very fast and affordable. I am stuck on the Penny Black poinsettia card that you recently made too! I just moved so all of my crafts are neatly stored in large plastic containers and boxes and my goal is to have everything set up mid November in time for Thanksgiving as that is a 4 day holiday! Lots of time to play!!!

You mentioned a product “Gamsol” a few videos back,what is another product I could use instead. We cant get it in NZ. I’m glad I found your videos,easy to follow and good ideas.

It’s difficult to get ‘Gamsol’ here in Australia. Although Spectrum Noir do make some now and it’s become easier since then. My ‘Gamsol’ is long gone, I just keep refilling the bottle with a (very inexpensive) product from the art / craft stores that you get in the paints section called Odourless Solvent by Art Spectrum. It’s also known as Odourless White Mineral Spirit. It doesn’t come with a dauber on the top of the bottle like the Gamsol but you can pur it into a sponge or bottle cap and one very clever friend of mine emptied one of her Tim Holtz dauber bottles, washed it out and then used it for her Gamsol.

Although I have not tried this yet (I use Gamsol), I have seen baby oil and even vaseline used to blend coloured pencils…just a little on a Q-tip…pat with a clean napkin to absorb anything sitting on top of the cardstock. It seems (on tutorials) to work great! 🙂
I liked the puffy look, but you’re right the patterns do look better. I’m not as patient as you and would probably have given up on the colouring and used the die with some patterned papers, and stuck them on top.

A wonderful card. I think you are bit harsh on yourself. He is a sad elephant. I agree with a couple above who said to use glossy accents (or I would have used pattern paper and glossy accents!). Actually started some chrissy cards yesterday and used glossy accents to make the baubles shiny & glossy. Need to wait til it stops raining to get some pics.

Hi Therese fantastic card, love every detail. That stamp set is brilliant, just wish the postage wasnt so high nearly as much as I wanted to spend so decided to not spend and just enjoy yours. So good.
I meant to say I really lied how you did the drawing on the letters with the white gel pen, it works perfectly. I recently discovered it was wuite easy to remove that white too when doing a card and got carried away with white dots then hated it.
I simply love your grumpy elephant card, Therese! I think it turned out to be fabulous. It is so nice to see a card with a humorous touch. I actually did like the “puffy” letter look that you started with and I think covering the letters with glossy accents would have accentuated the 3D look of them.

Therese – your card turned out perfect…it got better with every change you made to the ‘happy’ word. Also, Simon Says Stamp carries a Taylored Expressions ‘happy’ word die that looks similar, yet smaller as well as a similar La-La-Land ‘happy’ word die, although it’s stitched. Perhaps this info will help the readers that are asking about the die. As always, thanks for sharing your wonderful work!

I originally bought my cat and dog stamp sets direct from the company in the EU and they were very quick and postage was reasonable (and I really wanted them too… which can always justify a price lol). But then I found the Les Jungles at an online store Auzz Trinklets n Krafts, they are based in Brisbane, I think, and they are very reasonable and even have the option of free shipping on some of their products, something we don’t see much of here in Australia (no thanks to Aust Post there)! Anyhow, they do sell some Katzelkraft stamps but last I looked the Les Jungles was sold out, but you could email and ask when the next shipment will arrive? Very beautiful card Therese ! It’s nice to see that I’m not the only one to be indecisive when I make a card ! ;-)) Your first try was great but I definitely prefer the patterns on the letters. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your video Therese. I spend so much time procrastinating about what to add or not add, so it was interesting to see that you sometimes have those moments too. I also thought I was the only one who couldn’t get gel pens to work – I have 3 and none of them give good results. That deflated elephant is so hilarious on the word die cut! Maybe he’s irritated with the balloon attached to his tail? Watching the letters take shape was so much fun (not for you, I’m sure). Your white details were the perfect choice! I can’t think of anything else I would do, and I probably wouldn’t even think of that! The Nuvo dots are a wonderful touch. I LOVE this card!!
I love what you ended up doing with the letters. The Y in particular gave me a flashback to school and creating my own patterned letters on the title pages of my assignments 🙂

Hi Kim, This is a piece of acetate that I keep in my MISTI to help me position images / words etc. I just used it to protect my card front and to help me shift the cardstock to make sure that the image was in the correct position before I stamped it out. Love the finished result. I have this stamp but not the die so I am going to try using alphabet dies to achieve a similar look.
