Video : How to Use a Large Sentiment on a CAS design!

I adore this fab sentiment set from Penny Black but sometimes I can really struggle to make the ‘larger’ style sentiments work on a clean & simple design.  So today I thought I would share with you a fun way to use them, and have filmed the process so you can watch.

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at Youtube.

The focus is really the sentiment so I decided to keep the colouring very simple and subtle.

  1. Oh my Therese, this is one of the most endearing, sweet and totally tender images I’ve ever seen, love it, it got me a bit teary eyed just to think of elderly couples still so very much in love.
What a fabulous way to showcase the sentiment, I have a few of this bold sentiments and I usually stamp them inside my cards, I’ve never thought of doing it in the front but your idea is marvelous, and even if it’s stamped in black, still doesn’t take anything away from this simply adorable couple.
Thank you for the video, watching you in real time is awesome.
    Hugs,
    Maria Rodriguez.

  2. Thanks for a lovely way of using large sentiments, beautfully done. Love both the stamps too.

  3. You are so clever, Therese! I love the sweet image with those soft colors and how the sentiment pops on this card…so beautiful!

  4. I meant to add: It was so nice to see your Prime Minister here for a visit! Great interview, too…so nice to know that we have such wonderful Allies in the world 🙂

  5. What a clever idea; to ‘ghost color’ an image behind a sentiment! Love it!! I’ve got tons of sentiments that just might work, so that’s another card of yours for me to CASE, lol!! Darling couple and you’ve colored them beautifully. Great card. : )

  6. Beautiful Therese. I struggle with how to use a large sentiment on cards. Thanks for the wonderful design! Love the image and the sentiment set. I’m waiting for it to be in stock again.

  7. This card almost made me cry, Therese, because it reminds me of my Mom and Dad, although my Mom was a much smaller woman. They kissed every morning, each time they left each other and before they went to bed at night.

  8. LOVE this beautiful card! Thank you, Therese, this is such a lovely technique that you’ve shown us and I must try it, too 🙂 I really like that Penny Black produces images by Mo Manning as Mo’s images really portray life as many of us live it. Thanks for the video, too – so helpful in understanding the process.

  9. LOVE it Therese, brilliant technique and really showcases that fun and large sentiment 🙂

  10. I absolutely love this technique, I’m thinking this would work so well with lots of Art Impressions stamps too! Love the soft colouring… it almost looks like you’ve layered vellum over the image to make the colour subtle… thanks for sharing 🙂

  11. Oh this is just wonderful! That sentiment is a classic and your softly coloured image is beautiful and actually looks like it is sitting behind thick vellum. Great video, too, as always!

  12. A lovely card Therese. I love the shadowy colouring. It allows the large sentiment to shine. I would have thought it was a vellum overlay. Thanks for the hints.

  13. Love your treatment of the large sentiment here, Therese … such a brilliant idea … and such a sweet image! Think you may just have started a trend!! Hugs, Anita 🙂

  14. I found your blog through Olga’s, which I follow faithfully. I love watching you color. I’m a huge Copics fan…they work best for someone like myself who is not a natural artist…easy to fix mistakes. Love this technique and will look through my stamps to see what I have that will give similar results. I do have many Penny Black stamps and dies…love her products.

  15. You nailed this one. Such a clever way to use a sentiment and an image together. Wow!

  16. I love your soft and subtle Copic colouring. That is one area I am no good at! I just can’t stop adding colour. I wish I had your restraint – and talent!
