Video : Take 2 with Therese – A Stencil 2 Ways & Giveaway!

I am loving this series and I hope you are too, it’s time to Take 2 with Therese at Altenew and the focus today is the Beveled Squares Stencil and isn’t it fab!

Altenew - Beveled Squares Stencil - Layered Floral Elements - Therese Calvird (Take 2 card video) 1 copy

I have two techniques to share using this stencil and a video outlining the process below.

Altenew - Beveled Squares Stencil - Layered Floral Elements - Therese Calvird (Take 2 card video) 1 copy

I added a Dainty Swiss Dot background behind the stencil in the first card and used the same stamp set for both of the cards sentiments.

The Gentleman’s Gray inks added a nice warm grey tone to the Beveled Square Stencil backgrounds.

My second card design has an ombre style blended background.

And the frames were die cut with the Halftone Squares Die set from some Dark Gray Cardstock.

And it was fun to add a pop of colour using the Layered Floral Elements Die set for the little mini bouquets.

  1. Great cards! It’s amazing how the Swiss dots change the look. I like the ombré too. And both in smart grey – too hard to choose between them!

  2. I can’t believe the two very different looks you got with the same stencil, Therese. I’m so glad you do this series to show me how to use my products in varying ways.

  3. You’ve taken these shades of grey and made TWO over-the-top gorgeous cards, Therese! LOve the chunky frames, and how you’ve decked them out with these darling floral die-cuts! Fabulous, times two!
    =]

  4. Awesome cards!! I always go blank in using grey, thank you for the inspirations 🙂

  5. Therese – your cards are so pretty….. I love the look of flowers on a geometric background. I tend to forget about my stencils (all stored-away in my ‘stencil’ bin). You have newly inspired me to think ‘Stencils’ for my next projects (& maybe try to keep them more visible in my craft space)!

  6. Lovely cards! I love the greys you chose. I really must use my stencils more and this is great inspiration!

  7. Beautiful cards. That stencil has a wonderful pattern, so pretty for flowery cards but with darker colors would work really well for masculine cards too. Thanks so much for the video.

  8. Love both of your beautiful cards. This stencil is gorgeous and so versatile for creating backgrounds… I think I must have! Thanks for sharing your inspiration.

  9. What a gorgeous pair of cards Therese, the stencils are fabulous and they make the most stunning backgrounds!!!
Love the pop of color of the flowers!!
    Thank you for sharing.
    XO
    Maria.

  10. Gorgeous cards! I have so many stencils and I don’t think about using them.
    Thanks for sharing your creativity.

  11. So much fun to watch you create in your video. I had never heard of shiny, clear paste for stencils ‘transparent gloss’. That is So cool! Lovely cards. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Love everything you did! Great cards. Time to see if my paste has gone to yuk as well. I too do not use my stencils enough. You always inspire me, thank you.

  13. Two lovely cards, the combination of the floral with the geometric background go together so well. I love your true Aussie laid back style in your voice overs and your every present little chuckle if it’s about what your doing or about yourself!

  14. Love this idea Therese. That stencil is amazing and you have created beautiful cards. I never would have thought of that.
Thank you for sharing all your wonderful inspiration.

  15. What pretty cards. I have stencils, but have never used them. I’m intimidated. Maybe I should try. Great cards.

  16. I love the look of the Beveled Squares Stencil. And, I also love the techniques you used to create both cards. Going to dig in my stencil box and give the techniques a try. Thanks, Therese!

  17. Awesome cards as always Therese. Hmmm dried up paste…..no I would never have had that LOL.
Keeping the leftover die cuts is something that I do too. Cannot bear to throw them away. Loving
your use of greys. I would hardly ever use grey until all your fabulous ideas. I so look forward to
your tutorials, thank you for sharing.

  18. Thanks for the ‘stencil inspiration’! Love the stencil you used…and was interested to see the duster brushes in action. Thanks for the wonderful tutorials…now gotta go find some stencils and Play!♥

  19. Fabulous cards! I love the dotted background behind the texture paste – gives such a cool look! And, of course, your color combinations are gorgeous!

  20. I like both of your cards & the colors are perfect. I don’t use much texture past either, but like you I think I should. The backgrounds are perfect for just about any card. I love flowers on anything & think your square black frame was brilliant. I struggle with masculine cards & think these backgrounds would be a great starting point for the guys in my life. Happy crafting!

  21. Great cards. I had another idea. Since Altenew has great washi- what about covering some card in washi, then die cutting a cover plate and put flower on top; and another with cover plate just cut from cardstock and flower cut from the washi card? Could probably stamp over washi with Staz On but probably needs an experiment to test it.

  22. Gorgeous cards and such amazing design Terese!! I love what you did with the stencils-what a fantastic look for a background!! Thank you for another wonderful inspiration 🙂

  23. Great video! Thanks for “showing us how.” Love the greys. I use them whenever I can. As for future demos: please do more with stencils. You’re right. I have great stencils and don’t use them enough. I need more inspiration!

  24. Those are certainly two different looks from one stencil! Both are wonderful, and I love those grays too. The bright flowers look amazing against the gray. Thanks for showing your technique with the paste, and also those new blending brushes.

  25. Love these two cards. I’m not a lover of the color gray but I have to say it was love at first sight of your cards. Fabulous cards!!!!!! I keep all my stencils in a huge loose leaf binder and I have so much fun using them. Now I have a chance to buy the stencil you used and add it to my collection I think it makes a great background. Thanks for your wonderful video.

  26. Oh my! Gorgeous cards! I absolutely love the backgrounds you created! I haven’t used stencils much but you have inspired me to give them a go!!!

  27. Wow, what stunners, Therese … the warm grey stencilling (both the dotty and the undotty ombré (sigh)) and bold frames are just so stylish and elegant … simply fabulous with the pop of colour in the bouquets! Hugs, Anita 🙂

  28. Awesome cards! I love those grey backgrounds – grey is my fav neutral! I love the layering of the stencils – I need to try that. Thanks for the inspiration!

  29. I was thinking about this post today when I opened the paste jar and it was stiff and crumbly. I fixed it by adding Atelier liquefying medium (which is for acrylic paint).
