How to Use Altenew’s Wonderful Mask Stencils 2 Ways – Video & Giveaway!

Today I share two different ways to use the Dotted Blooms Mask Stencil from Altenew.  This is part of my Take 2 with Therese video series with Altenew and if you haven’t caught any of these videos before I have a link to my playlist with more inspiration HERE.

Altenew - Dotted Blooms Stamp Focus - Therese Calvird (Take 2 Card Video)

I stamped a background using the layering portion of the Dotted Blooms Stamp Set and added colour with the negative Mask Stencil.

A overlay of vellum added softness to the card.

My second design uses a vase from the Life is Beautiful Stamp Set.  And this time I added a halo around the flowers using the positive Mask Stencil pieces.

Altenew - Dotted Blooms - Wispy Begonia - Therese Calvird (Take 2 card video) 1 copy

The sentiment is from the Wispy Begonia Stamp Set.

  1. Both cards are absolutely beautiful. I’m going to have a go at something similar. You are such an inspiration. Thank you.

  2. SO glad you didn’t give up on that second card … it’s BEAUTIFUL! Such pretty colors. And I like the way you used the velum to soften the first card. I keep forgetting to use some velum (I tend to save mine for using with alcohol inks). Thanks, Therese.

  3. I follow you, so I first saw these in my email….so I went to YouTube and watched it there…so beautiful Therese……Your work is always a mind blower….so now that I am sitting here with no mind, what do I say? LOL…..I love both cards so much and am even more excited as I just found the email telling me that the set that I ordered has been shipped. I cannot wait to try my hand with this stamp/die/stencil set. I am always amazed at how easy you make things look. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful and helpful videos….big hugs!

    1. Sorry about your ‘mind’, I do hope you don’t have a headache now, but I am sure that the new set will fix that when it arrives lol. I hope you have as much fun with it as I am! Crafty hugs, Therese

  4. Thank you for sharing for talents and techniques, Therese! These two cards are gorgeous and thank you soooooo much for sticking with the second card!! It turned out stunning!!!

  5. Both of these cards are dreamy. Your videos are so informative, educational and fun to watch. Thanks for sharing your amazing talent.

  6. Lovely cards. I used to use vellum a lot but have gotten away from it. Thanks for the reminder that it adds a softening touch to a card.

  7. great video – I love how you walk us through the card. Your comments and tips are very helpful.

  8. I always love what you create Therese! These two cards are no exception. They are beautiful. I like the softness of them. Thanks for the tip on adhering vellum!

  9. Haven’t tried the masks yet but I’m eager. If I could just make up my mind about which one to purchase!

  10. This was my favorite stamp set from the new release, and I absolutely love your designs for it! I think the second card even more beautiful than the first. Thanks for the lesson to stick with something until it pleases you.

  11. Your designs look amazingly soft and simple. This is the very first time I’ve come across your blog and I am glad. I like to make simple designed cards as well, I think they look very elegant. I don’t have a Life Changing brushes yet, what is your honest opinion on them?
    Cheers

    1. So far the brushes have been brilliant for me, I am a terrible blender unless it was with the Oxides or if I was adding ‘heavy’ colour, but I always wanted the lighter blended look and I can easily achieve this with the brushes where I haven’t been able to with sponges. I hope this makes sense. I think you can buy them ‘singly’ or in smaller packs so it might be worth trying one to see if you like it. Thanks so much for your lovely visit today, Crafty hugs, Therese

  18. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, love how soft the cards are. You are so creative. Thanks for giving me some new ideas.

  19. These cards are sooo beautiful and very soft! I love the first one a lot, the vellum is a great touch for the soft and pleasant feel! 🙂

  20. I really enjoyed your video today. The new ideas with using the stencil mask to color with the vanilla ink really appealed to me. Going to get this stampset and try this out. Thanks for sharing!

  21. These are lovely. The vellum card is really classic and lovely but I really liked watching the vase card come to life when you added the pencil. Thanks for sharing.

  22. These cards are fabulous!! I love the soft look the vellum adds. The halo you created with the positive masks provides the perfect touch. I was happy to see that I have similar scissors to help hold that teeny tiny piece 😉 Thank you for sharing the process in your video. I can’t wait until my set arrives.

  23. Two more beautiful cards, Therese. Those blossoms are really pretty, and I’m mad about that branch. Just might have to add this set to my cart; you’re a great enabler you know, lol!! And your video is so helpful, too. But then I enjoy watching all your videos. Love your second card especially.

  25. This is my new favorite stamp set and the subtlety you’ve used to bring it to life is perfect for the images. Both cards are simply exquisite.

  26. Both beautuful cards, but the second one is just so different. I’m trying to follow your lead and take a more simplistic approach to my card making. I look forward to your videos, I always learn something that I can think about using with the cards I make.

  27. Beautiful cards Therese. I’m so glad you stuck with your second card, it turned out awesome!

  28. Both cards are great but I really like the one with the vase. I’m glad you kept at it – turned out beautifully.

  29. I can understand the reason you added the shading on and around the vase…It made the images really blend well even though the colors were contrasting..amazed as always by the beauty you create!!!

  30. Thank you for making my Thursday happy. Nothing like a couple of beautifully inspiring cards and a video to make the day shine. Love these new masking sets. Patiently waiting for my order to arrive.
If your list for video ideas,(I’m sore your not!), I’ve been practicing all the alcohol marker tips and tricks. I’ve changed my papers, thanks again!
However I do learn so much from your tutorials and I think I’m ready for larger images now.
No pressure I know how time poor you are.
    Crafty cheers

  31. Hi I have just fallen in love with these stamps. I like the masking features, I have never been successful with making my own so this would really help me. Your work makes the stamp come to life. 🙂

  32. I like the look of cards with vellum, but have never actually tried to use it. This looks like a great first project! Thanks for sharing your techniques.

  33. Love these stamps and your cards are beautiful! I am beginning to get into altenew and their stamps for more elegant, more serious cards. Especially now that I have layered stamping down! In love with all the florals!!
Thanks for the chance to win this prize!!

  34. I love every card you make. Your cards are always so beautiful. Your videos are a joy to watch with your wonderful calm voice, great sense of humor and classy style. Thank you for the time and effort you put into your craft. I wish I could do half as well on my cards as you do. I am praying the back surgery I am having on the 4th will lessen my pain enough that I can craft more than I am able to now. Would love to be able to get a few of the new bundles on Altenew; but, budget is very tight right now – maybe after surgery and I am back to work. I just love Altenew products.

  35. Both cards are beautiful but I especially love your second one with the vase. It’s unique and quite stunning. You’ve inspired me to try coloring my images with colored pencils… I’ve been too intimidated to try it. Thank you for the video, I always enjoy watching your process.

  36. Beautiful Cards! I love the way you put these together. So rich and elegant. I would like to try these stencils. TFS

  37. Lovely! I’m so glad you stuck with that second card because you truly did make it come to life, proving that a few small tweeks can make a big difference.

  38. You have such a great sense of design Therese! The vellum overlay was a wonderful idea for softening the background and highlighting the line branch. The vase card was definitely worth saving, it’s such a lovely image and your coloring with the pencils just brought it to life! Love both these cards!

  39. Some more gorgeous work from you, you always get it to come out just right. I loved the elegance of these.

  40. What soft and feminine cards you created using this beautiful new stamp and stencil set! I appreciate so much that you share your time and talents with us.

  41. Thank you so much for your lovely video – it really brightened my day! Your color blending is so pretty – those Life Changing brushes must really work, if it is true you don’t blend well without them. Adding the pencil work to the vase and flowers made an amazing difference! I am learning so much from you! Thanks again! Hugs!

  42. These are both so beautiful, Therese, subtle and delicate … the vellum overlay is dreamy and I love the effect of the soft blending and colouring on the floral sprig in the vase! Hugs, Anita 🙂
