How to Use Backyard Birds Inspired by Charley Harper + Video!

Today I share 2 different Artist Inspired cards made with the new release set from Ellen Hutson called Backyard Bird Friends.

Starting with a classic Andy Warhol block style design using some bright Copic colours.

I did use a background of black cardstock as I thought this helped it to pop.

My second design is another of my fave artists Charley Harper.  His illustrative style is unique and I love his use of colour.

I created my own masked panel background by blending some Distress Oxide inks.

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube.

Are you inspired by your favourite artists?  I think it’s a great place to get some inspiration and maybe some colour combos and then you can make it your own from there.  I am so glad you stopped by today, Hugs

  1. How ever did you learn about Charley Harper??!! LOve him! are you surprised? We even have jigsaw puzzles of his work! He’s created so many gorgeous prints!
LOve your CH inspired card … and the first is gorgeous, too!
    =]

  2. Love these! The birds are so cute, and I like how you could make them into familiar birds by coloring them different ways. I love your Warhol card!

I use the stamp blocks a lot, probably a little more than my stamp platform. But I do agree that it has changed everything.

  3. I don’t know about Charlie Harper! (Have I been under a rock)?I will look him up because I love the look of this!

  4. I really like the way you did the card in the video. I have never heard of Charlie Harper but I will have to goggle him. Therese, if you say you have your eye on the pro it is just a matter of time before you get one. You know that, don’t you? When people ask me what my hobby is I tell them it’s buying stuff to support my other hobby. I won’t tell your husband if you won’t tell mine! LOL

  5. Both cards are great, but I have to say I love the second one. I’d never heard of Charley Harper, but I’ve had a look at his work on-line. Crafting is an ongoing source of education; we are always learning something new. Thank you.

  6. Nice to start the day learning about Charley Harper. And to consider how artists can influence our card making.

  7. Love thr cards. So cute and colorful especially that little bird, he is darling. Thank you for sharing him and your inspiration.

  8. I had to go look up Charley Harper after seeing the video, Therese. I didn’t know about him but I bet my art teaching daughter did. His graphic style is wonderful and so is your interpretation of him.
