Altenew May 2019 Stamp/Die/Stencil Release Blog Hop & Giveaway + Video!

Today I share a video sharing some easy tips for colouring an embossed image with Prismacolor Pencils, but did you know that this is part of a Hop celebrating the new release from Altenew and if you are hopping along you should have arrived here from JEANNE’s amazing Blog!

I have a card and video to share with you today using the beautiful new Ornate Foliage Stamp Set.  I have a video sharing the process of how I created this card and you can find that linked below.

Altenew - Ornate Foliage - Halftone Hello - Therese Calvird (card video) 1 copy

This set comes with all the pieces to ‘stamp layer’ but today I thought it would be fun to do some colouring….  and some bright colouring too!

Altenew - Ornate Foliage - Halftone Hello - Therese Calvird (card video) 1 copyI used a piece of Lagoon Cardstock as my base and added a sentiment from the classic Halftone Hello Stamp Set with a sub sentiment from the You Are Stamp Set.

Altenew - Ornate Foliage - Halftone Hello - Therese Calvird (card video) 1 copyAnd some nice bright enamel dots finished the whole piece off perfectly!

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube.

  1. What a stunning card!
Really love the effect of coloring pencils on this cardstock.
    Thanks for sharing!

  2. That lagoon color card stock is just beautiful! And the colors you chose all make the card a beauty! Thanks for the tip about stamping, coloring and THEN heat embossing!! Thanks for the video.

    1. What an absolutely beautiful card, Therese! I love watching your videos, thank you for sharing.

  3. I think our stash of colored cardstock only gets half the attention it deserves … like this gorgeous Lagoon one! You’ve given it a treat today, Therese – and I can’t wait to see you make it… I’m off!!!!!
    =]

  4. Love the card. Thanks for the “embossing after coloring” tip. What a great idea.

    1. I think my only concern with embossing after is whether the embossing ink would stick to the wax based pencil if I went over a line…. it’s something that I will have to try when I get home from camping. I would love it if you let me know how you go if you try it first. Have a great and crafty day, Hugs Therese

  5. Gorgeous card and beautiful choice of colors! I love the Lagoon background! I always appreciate colored pencil tutorials and tips- thank you!

  6. Hi Therese,
    Loved this.
Have stamp by PB outline ready to be inked… was going to do it differently on watercolour paper but think it now demands this!! Love it.
Also love your videos… they’re not time wasters but really instructional… you showcase this lovely set of stamps beautifully. Don’t have any Altenew yet but maybe one day.
    Thanks again,

  7. Beautiful vibrant card Therese. It looks quite exotic. Another amazing release. The problem is that I never get a chance to use everything I’ve bought from one release before the next one is available.

  8. Lovely use of colored cardstock and beautiful pencil work! Always a pleasure to watch you work.

  9. Therese – I love watching your videos. I have used my coloured pencils on my last couple of cards so I really enjoyed seeing your card today.

  10. Hi Therese, your color theme is so fresh and very happy happy feel come with it. Thank you.

  15. You have a gift of adding colors together I would never think about. These colors take my breath away and get me excited about coloring!!!!!!! Thank you.

  16. Beautiful! This technique really adds a lot of depth to your flowers! Thanks for sharing a video, I pinned it to try one day 🙂

  17. What a gorgeous color combination! How long did it take to color these flowers?

    1. I can’t remember it taking too long to colour the flowers, but then I find colouring very relaxing and if it’s for the look that I want then I will just do it. Another way this card would look amazing (and take much less time) is to stamp and emboss the images across the whole front panel and then just highlight one card to colour. Thanks so much for your lovely visit and comment today. Therese

  18. Therese, you used my favourite stamp set from this release & the card you created with it is stunning. Love the blue lagoon cardstock, & as you said it could just be left with the white heat embossing & it would be great. Thanks for your video & I appreciate your tips.

  19. Hi Therese
Beautiful colour combination. I would never have thought to use the blue for a background, but it works beautifully. Thank you so much for sharing.
BTW where do you get your pencil holders?

  32. WOW WOW WOW! I just LOVE your colouring. So gorgeous. I really love how you used the three enamel dots in the different colours to match your outstanding colouring. Just amazing!

  34. I have to start paying more attention to Altenew’s paper; I haven’t ever really looked at it much and it’s very pretty. Your coloring of the Ornate Flowers is just beautiful.

  35. This is such a gorgeous card!! I love the colors of the flowers on the Lagoon cardstock.

  36. I just did a colored pencil piece on black cardstock, and I had some similar issues with the white embossing staining. I decided that I kind of liked how it incorporated the bright white into the coloring a little more. (Though I’ll be honest here: I’m not sure if that’s because I actually didn’t mind the staining or if I was just too lazy to care. Both are equally likely.) Thanks for sharing your beautiful cards and coloring techniques with us!

  37. Can’t stop looking at this card, its so gorgeous and the colours really speak to me. Must make time to watch the video tonight while tucked up in bed!!

  38. Oh Therese, your colouring is always “at another level”! Love the colours you chose and couldn’t help but notice how well used your pencils were – unlike the full set that lives in my drawer!!!!! I also loved the look of just the white embossing. I will give both of these ideas a try, because, hey, for once I do have the exact stamp set.

  48. Beautiful card using my favorite from this wonderful release, the Ornate Foliage set. Your coloring is amazing.

  49. What a fun video Therese. You are so REAL…. the look you achieved with the colouring on the teal background is just awesome.

  50. Gorgeous! Thanks so much for the tips on using pencils on colored card stock and how not to emboss first. Lol

  51. Dear Therese
wow what a lovely card. The coloring as usual is perfect but I never for once thought it was color pencils.Love the blue lagoon u have used for the background and the bright colors of the flowers stand out very majestically. I cant watch your video as social media is banned in Sri Lanka. I just wanted to ask whether water color pencils will be ok. I am trying to learn coloring from all of you lovely people. Thanks for the inspiration.
    Love and hugs

    1. Hi Surekha, all pencils are different in the way that they sit on the paper, the Prismacolors are fabulous because they are wax based which makes them soft, the colour vivid and they blend with themselves (or with Gamsol), but you can certainly try any pencils that you have and even though the effect may look different it can still be just as amazing. If the colours aren’t as vivid you could try a lighter cardstock in the background or even lay down a layer of white (which I did on this card) as a base colour on the flowers so that the colours popped even brighter. Hope this is helpful and that your social media ban is lifted soon…. I don’t know what I would do without my crafty online friends. Big hugs, Therese

  52. I love the colours you chose for this card! I feel like that flower stamp is asking for lovely bold and bright colours. Beautiful design as usual, and the enamel dots add a cute touch

  53. Love your use of the Ornate Foliage set. And your pencil coloring is amazing. Thanks for the inspiration and the great video! Love all the tips you gave!
