How to ‘Remake’ a Fun Paper Pieced Card with Watercolours + Video!

Today I share 2 cards using the Altenew Weekend Doodles Stamp Set.  This is part of my Take 2 with Therese video series with Altenew and if you haven’t caught any of these videos before I have a link to my playlist with more inspiration HERE.

Today I have two cards to share that are very similar but made quite differently.

Altenew - Weekend Doodles - Mega Greetings - Take 2 With Therese (card video) 1 copy

I had an ‘urge’ to paper piece, it’s been a while you know.  So out came the Summer Garden Paper Pack and the Weekend Doodles Stamp Set and away I went.

Altenew - Weekend Doodles - Mega Greetings - Take 2 With Therese (card video) 1 copy

I did add some Ink Splatters which I am still obsessing with at the moment

as well as Mega Friend Die sentiment with a teeny weeny sub sentiment from the Flower Vine Stamp Set.

Then I got to thinking…   wouldn’t it be fun to ‘recreate’ this card but without the design paper.  So out came the Altenew Watercolor Pan Set and away I went.

I did change up the sentiment, this time I stamped ‘hello’ from the Mega Greetings Set.

and have you heard, you might have…  I am loving the new Obsidian Pigment Ink, just sayin.

How long has it been since you have Paper Pieced…..   are you like me and it’s been an age or is it something you do all the time?  I had forgotten how fun it could be!  Thanks for stopping by today, I’ll be back again real soon, Hugs,

24 thoughts on “How to ‘Remake’ a Fun Paper Pieced Card with Watercolours + Video!

  1. Really love these cards Therese. The colours are so clean and fresh. Simply beautiful! ❤️

  2. One of my favorite videos, Therese! Both cards are amazing! I loved seeing the paper pieced design using some patterned paper. I used to the paper piece often but haven’t done it for ages. Thanks for the inspiration

  3. I haven’t seen or thought about paper piecing in quite a while. It turned out beautifully.

  4. I’ve been getting into paper piecing recently. Have a couple of Julie Nutting’s dolls and having fun paper piecing their outfits!! And tried it with a bird on a mixed media canvas recently, BUT I never thought to do it with flowers!! How beautiful!! Thanks for the idea and the video.

    1. Yes, I remember cutting up paper clothes for ‘paper dolls’ when I was young, it was wonderful! And obviously I still love it lol, I must check out Julie Nuttings dolls, I hadn’t heard about that they had outfits, how fab!

  5. Both of your cards are gorgeous, Therese! It was fun to see one paper pieced from a watercolor printed paper, and then watercolored similarly – such a great idea and they are both wonderful! That black ink looks like a winner too!

  6. two wonderful cards and love the paper piecing idea with that lovely patterned paper!!

  7. Popped over and checked out your video and so enjoyed watching you create both your beautiful cards. Love the bold colours you used with the DP and watercolours. Loved the layouts. Off to our yearly Craft Show on Saturday to check out what’s new etc. You know where I’ll be LOL

  8. These are fabulous! And i have that stamp set..I might just have to try paper piercing again! Hugs XoX

  9. Lovely! Love the bold sentiments. Paper piercing I think I have at sometime in the last 6 months! is that recent enough? I need to get off the computer and create something 😉

  10. Great video. Just glancing at the cards you wouldn’t realise how differently they were made. What about a take 2 with the new gold ink. Maybe you could compare it to embossing powder or use it in 2 ways?

  11. What an interesting (and brilliant!) idea, Therese … your attention to getting the details so perfect on the paper pieced sprig is fantastic! I do love to watch you colouring … the results are unfailingly gorgeous … as is this card! If your Wagner is truly demised, deceased, is no more … you could try one of the Wow Two Speed heat tools … love mine! Hugs, Anita 🙂

    1. I haven’t been able to find the WOW in Australia either, but I was definitely thinking of going this way and I am happy to hear that you like it. My old tool that I’ve found has the 2 speeds like the WOW, it’s a Papermania one that I bought when I was living in the UK. Thanks so much, I hope you have a great and crafty day my friend, Hugs x

  12. Really enjoyed your video and I don’t think i have ever paper pieced together stamps; however when Quickutz dies were all the rage, I used to cut out with a hand held tool, tons of paper dolls and their outfits and piece together to create both the size 2×2 and the 4×4 sized dolls!
(I remember doing this and have just found an old stash in the craft room!) I suppose the attention to detail could be the same as your love labor of cutting out each flower so perfect! I don’t know how you did it! Not sure I have the patience for it.
I will try this technique once we get moved. We are in the process of moving from Twentynine Palms, CA to Virginia and of course we are driving the entire way and stopping multiple places in the process; so right now I am trying to pack up my craft room and have some of it available while we are in our travels.
love the colors and how amazing both cards look and turned out! So pretty and elegant. I really like how that new Altenew ink looks too! I am gonna watch this video again because I liked it so much.
I want to say if you can not get your dad to fix the heat gun and can not find an Aussie version, then I would gladly send you the Wagner tool from here. You might need to use it with an adapter tool since the outlets are different; but I might have one in the junk drawer from our trip to Brisbane a few years ago. I am just sayin’ I am happy to help you out!
I really hope that you will be teaching some Altenew classes once we get to VA so I can properly take them and actually participate in them! I am sad to miss your next class that starts next week but that is the week my husband turns his current command detail over and we start on our journey.
I wish you a successful class and hugs to you and your creativity! Such really great work and I ALWAYS enjoy hearing your voice and learning from you!

    1. I am so happy to hear that you liked my cards, these were seriously fun to make! And thank you very much for your lovely offer, I’ve found my old heat tool from when I lived in the UK and now that the dust has smoked off it I think it’s going to work for now lol. I am considering the WOW tool as the reviews look good and I like that it has two speeds (like me). But so far it’s not available in Australia but I know that it will work if I get one from the UK as they have 240V power the same as we do. It would have been so wonderful if you could have joined the new class while it was ‘live’ but it will always be there if you have time at a later date, these 3D flowers from Altenew have become a fast favourite of mine. Hope you have the most fabulous and crafty day, Hugs Therese

  13. Those big words are AMAZING!!!! I also love the background and the perfectly balanced addition of the flowers!!! Just stunning cards.
