Easy Masking Technique using Magic – Ellen Hutson Release + Video!

Do you like to mask images to create a scene? Today you can watch me get all my drinks together ready for a celebration!

Ellen Hutson is celebrating the Summer of Stamping and today we are hopping along and you should have arrived here from MICHELE‘s incredible, amazing, awesome and brilliant Blog!

I have 2 cards and a video to share starting with a little Rainbow scene with one of the gals from the Mini Voices in My Head Stamp Set.

I added a Speech Bubbles sentiment from the Voices in My Head Vol 3.

She is peeking over her neighbours fence… maybe it’s an outdoor toilet (does anyone remember those?).

Next I used the Masking Magic paper from Gina K to create a simple scene with the Voices in My Head Accessories Stamp Set.

I just had to use the sentiment set yet again, isn’t it quirky and fun!

  1. These cards are AMAZING! I have never heard of this line, but am going to pick some up!

  2. Love the light-hearted look at the
trials and tribulations of the current
    time. Instead of fretting, we
can bring humor into the picture.
    thanks for sharing

  3. Cute cards, and sadly, yes, I remember outhouses! Who would have thought we needed a toilet paper stamp!!! Love your cards and video, thanks!

  4. These cards are so fun! Love how you coloured the drinks. I think that even I could manage that!

  5. Such great cards. Love the video and the lady looking over the fence is adorable.

  6. Great cards Therese! The sketchy Copic coloring of the cocktails is perfect and the neighbor peeking over the “fence” is truly clever!

  7. Something completely different. Two beautiful bright fun cards. Love what you created.

  8. Awesome cards! I love the sketchy look of the cocktail glasses and the way you colored them!

  9. Thank you for sharing your masking and colouring techniques. I am new to both and appreciate any tips I can get. I am going to have to use the ‘messy’ colouring since I am not very good yet! Lol! Both of your cards are adorable! I love this release!

  10. What a really cool card CAS card! I agree with you, I don’t like to see my copic coloring on the other side of my card stock so I never stamp and color my images on the card base. I always stamp and color my images and mount them on my card base! Thank you for the video! That first card is really cute!

  11. Love the masking, love the messy coloring. Thanks for the video. I’m surprised Julie didn’t say cocktails and WHINE. That’s all my squad does!

  12. These are just sooooooo cool! I love the colouring for the cocktails!!! Normally I wouldn’t do messing colouring like that as I’m so use to blending and colouring everything in. I’m going to have to give it a go now. Thank you for the inspiration.

  13. Fantastic cards, Therese!!! Great video too! Thanks for the super fun inspiration 🙂

  14. Love the messy copic colouring, even though it is very ‘precise’ shall we say! Your dunny girl is great. Bit of an Aussie take on things lol. Julie’s light hearted way of looking at life in these sentiments is
awesome. Thanks for sharing Therese, your cards are great as always.
    Keep well.

  15. Ha! We had a Zoom cocktail party last week. Not quite the same as being there in person but fun none the less.

  16. Great cards! Enjoyed the video of your messy Copic coloring which happens to look pretty cool to me. Thanks for the masking tips! Love those interesting looking cocktails.

  17. Fantastic designs, so fun & filled with colours. Let me know when & where online & I will bring a bottle x Stay safe and happy.

  18. I love the beauty and simplicity of the cocktail card. The “messy” coloring is fantastic!

  19. Super cute cards! I love how you colored the images on the cocktails. You nailed that card!!

  20. Therese- your spare a square brought to mind exactly that of a “rustic” bathroom stall…or some of the rougher indoor ones at dive bars in my college days– you nailed it! I’m so enjoying Julie E’s extension of the ViMH line, and your take on it made me smile. Thanks for the inspiration and trip down memory lane. Stay safe.

  21. I loved your little video Therese! Your “messy” marker work looks spot on perfect to me! This card is super cute and I love the colorful CAS sketchy look.
    Warm Hugs,
    Michele H.

  22. Are you kidding me???!!! I can just hear the ice cubes clinking in that glass. Really love this coloring style – so different and fun. Also love the “mod” style (yes, I came of age in the ’60’s!) of the top card. The fence is just a kick. You rock, as always. Thanks!

  23. Fab cards! I’d spare a square right back at you. Here in Melbourne it’s not toilet paper 🧻 at the moment but elastic! So grateful for a pretty well stocked craft room 😄.
Do you have any tips to stop my glasses sliding down my nose when I’m wearing my mask? I’m thinking with mask elastic & glasses on there is too much going on & my glasses fall. New level of respect for those who wear this type of gear in their normal day job. Sitting at a desk from 9 – 5 I’ve not needed this before now.

    1. The big tip is to put the mask on first and make sure it is firmly pressed along the nose and cheeks (ours have a soft metal across the top)…. then put your glasses on… seriously though, the brands of mask can make a difference and it’s the fogging that can be my biggest problem. Would those little pads that you can stick to your glasses help do you think? But I am so happy to hear that you are wearing one though, please keep yourself safe my friend, every little bit helps. Our parents are in Victoria and I am feeling a long way from home right now. ps now all I can think of is that double sided velcro, wouldn’t be the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen but it would be funny though wink!

      1. Thanks. Not fogging so much, just glasses moving around. Totally forgot about those nose pad things will go looking for some of those the grip on those might just do the trick. If they don’t work I do have velcro haha 😉 Are your parents in Melbourne? feel it certainly is not the place to be at the moment! Hubby and eldest daughter have been locked out of their workplace (a school). I think my job is a little less risky than yours hope you continue to stay safe too.

  24. I LOVE the colors you used on your cocktail card. It is so pretty. I attempted to subscribe to your blog but it kept telling me that I didn’t use a valid email address. I tried using my WordPress email too but it still kicked back. I will attempt to subscribe again later because I really enjoy your posts. Thanks for sharing.

    1. I finally got it to accept my subscription this time!!! I look forward to getting your blog reminders in the future!

      1. Hi Lynn, I have heard that WordPress can be a little fickle…. but I avoided Blogger because of the problems with Spam, it seems that it’s the opposite problem here eek. I have seen that some people have set up a free WordPress account to make it easier, seems a little excessive to me but I am glad that it did finally work for you. A BIG Welcome!!! Crafty hugs, Therese

  25. Super cute cards! I am loving the spare a square (always reminds me of the Seinfeld episode!) The cocktail card is so fun. My gal friends would love it as we have had a few online happy hours!

  26. Love those cards. Your “messy” copic coloring is perfect. I absolutely love this wonderful, hysterical release.

  27. Therese, thank you for those great masking tips! Your COPIC coloring was fun to see also. Cute card!
Loved the girl looking over the fence so much!

  28. LOVE this “messy copic coloring” technique! I cannot color with alcohol markers to save my life- colors bleed, I can’t blend, wrong color combos, too bold of a line…..and it goes on. This is PERFECT for me! Thank you for giving me “permission” to be messy! This is now my “trademark” style….MESSY coloring! 🙂

  29. Hi Therese 🙂 You teach soooo well. I’ll have to pop back and watch your masking video…don’t quite have that technique down yet! Your cards are charming!!! Thanks for the inspiration 🙂

  30. Hilarious! I love that spare a square quote from Seinfeld! She’s great, peeking up over the fence like that! I love your cocktails and the coloring style that you used for them!
