How to Create Fun BOLD Sentiments – 2 Ways + Video!

Do you like to create your very own ‘punny’ sentiments? Today I have a video sharing how I mixed up stamp and die sets to do just that!

Welcome back to another Take 2 With Therese, this is my video series for Altenew and if you missed any of my previous videos be sure to check them out right HERE.

Today I am using the Chipmunk & Squirrel Stamp Set from Altenew and I thought it would be fun to create my own sentiments in a bold kind of way.

Therese Calvird - Altenew - Chipmunk & Squirrel - Take 2 With Therese (card video) 1

I started by getting out my die and stamp sets and choosing which ones would suit my sentiment and designs the best…. I didn’t realise just how many I have ‘collected’ (ahem) over the years (psss don’t tell my hubby)!

I also enjoyed using this Modern Circle Stencil in the background.

And don’t be afraid to cut up your sentiments like I did here with the Happy Birthday Die.

I did some almost ‘no-line’ colouring with my pencils today and kept to the same colour scheme on both card designs.

This time the background was stamped using the Halftone Circles Stamp Set.

And popping up the words added just a little something to these clean and simple (ish) cards.

  1. So perfect. I never thought of that but I love it. So happy and excited you shared way of making pun words. No more buying pun stamps. Thank you for sharing.

  2. Fabulous cards Therese. I love the colours that you used and how you combined the various sets to build the cards. Just brilliant❤️

  3. Deliciously punny and fun, Therese … a fabulous vibrant colour palette … and such cute little critters to adorn the bold sentiments! In answer to your question … yep, great idea to create the wider frame from the stencilled paper … it seems to keep the balance just right! Hugs, Anita 🙂

  4. I’m “NUTS” about your cards!! They are adorable and so creative and give lots of inspiration for customizing cards with parts of stamp and die sets we already may own. As always, your talent is so appreciated.

  5. I love your punny cards. Great job mixing your dies and stamps and I just love this color combo.

  6. Love the colour combo – the frame for the chipmunk card was perfect , there would have been nothing to see if you had gone with your first idea.

  7. So cool! How do you think up the puns? I always forget 🙂 Love them and the little squirrel is very cute.
PS wont tell yours if you don’t tell mine – although I think mine has an idea 😉

  8. Two fun cards and great ideas for cards my teenage grandson and the two younger ones! I’m always on the look out for ideas to spark my imagination and you inspire!

    1. I think they’d be perfect for the teens, young kids and even for men, it is easy enough to change up a sentiment or image and it would be perfect for any occasion. Thanks so much Barbara!

  9. Great colour combo! I love the mixed fonts and the graphic backgrounds. I like the fatter border that you chose best as it shows more of that fabulous stencilling.

  10. SO cute, and the aqua and orange are stunning together. Can’t with to watch the video – thank you 🙂

  11. LOVE the color combination! So cheerful and bright!
You are the only one I’ve seen apply fun foam like this, so I am going to try your technique– what could go wrong, right? Thank you for sharing your creativity!

    1. Hi June, This technique works well for me, especially with intricate die cuts. A couple of tips – use a manual die cutting machine (the electric ones like the Gemini put too much pressure on the foam) – you can also let the foam sit for a minute to uncompress – also allow a few minutes for the matte medium to dry before releasing the die cut (though don’t leave it too long as the edges can sometimes look crunchy… if you do this you will know what I mean lol) – and remove the centre bits of the die cut first so that when you release the whole thing you don’t have to fuss with it too much. I hope this works for you, I’ve been using this technique for years and find it much better than cutting multiple layers and joining them together (as that seems to take so very long). Have the most wonderful week, Tx

  12. Wow, Therese! These have that graphic, fun bold look that are always a hit for masculine cards! Most of the men in my family are a little nutty, so I could see these coming in very handy! I love the colors and the mix of letters!

  13. I’m late to the party, but I love everything about these two cards! it helps that orange/turquoise is one of my very favorite color combos, but these designs are also packed with so many good ideas. I’ve pinned them on my board for using small stamped images, because that’s something I struggle with.

    1. So happy that you will be able to use some of these ideas, and yes they can be adapted to any cute little critter that you may already have!! Thanks so much Sandy!
