Did you guess my second stencil technique? It’s time for some tone on tone, but I decided to amp it up a little…

I love stencils (they are so affordable) so I thought I would give you 4 technique ideas over the next few weeks to stretch your stencils. Did you see my first idea HERE? I have been inspired by the new release from Ellen Hutson, and my birthday card stash is growing strong!

And here it is, the star of the show, the ‘Sprinkles’ Stencil set!

Stencil Idea #2 – Tone on Tone!

Yes, an oldie but a goodie! But why stop at just one tone when you can have 3. Yes, I created a muticoloured background by swiping inks accross a piece of cardstock. Then, when it dried I layed the stencil overtop and ink blended the same coloured ink over the coresponding colour to create a tone on tone result but in 3 colours!

I added a fun piece of birthday cake using the Cake Day Combo, and yes, those are gold shiny sprinkles, this adds some fun texture without too much bulk… although I did pop the cake up on foam tape, this is totally optional.

PRO TIP: Because of the clever design of these stencils it was very easy to choose just one of the stencils to add a subtle pattern in the background but you could certainly add as many tone on tone layers as you want.

I also added a subsentiment from the Birthday Vibes set, LOVE that this set coordinates with an older die which cuts out all of the sentiments in one go!
