Would you like more FOILed inspiration, tips and tricks? I’ve been foiling everything lately and playing with a new technique to me on how to ‘widen’ the lines of a regular thin die…
I recently bought a new die-cutting machine. My old one didn’t have ‘even’ pressure and was affecting my foiling results which was, to say the least, just a little frustrating. As if Hot Foil doesn’t already have its own challenges 😉. That is why I adore Crafty Critta’s paper and foils so much. The results I get using these are consistent and with 8 new colours to choose from, what’s not to love (they now have a TOTAL of 44 colours)?
Crafty Critta have been very generous and offered a 5% DISCOUNT CODE to you, for your entire purchase: lostinpaper05
Technique Idea
Hot Foiling regular thin cutting dies works a treat, the result is a clean sharp foiled line on your cardstock (left image). But what if you want a ‘thicker’ or a ‘wider’ foiled line? Adding a piece of acetate between the die and the foil will do just that (right image). Check out these results here using the Mod Floral die.

TIPS:
The sandwich is: (from the base plate up) Metal die – cutting side up | Acetate | Hot Foil – pretty side to the die | cardstock to be foiled | use a shim or two if needed
I used heat-resistant acetate but you could try what you have (even try packaging), test a small area first if you are not sure.
Remember ‘pretty to pretty‘, the pretty (shiny) side of the foil should be facing the pretty side of the foiling plate.
And did you know that you can ‘clean’ the foil off your hot foiled plates using acetone? Just saying lol.
PRO TIP: Do not waste foils and cardstock! Test your sandwich first with a small piece of foil and the card you going to use, it’s worth it, just ask me how I know lol.
I was inspired by Christine Stokes‘ video right HERE, thank you so much Christine! I have wanted to try this technique since I saw the video but it’s a case of too many techniques and not enough time lol.
Now onto the Release, I had such fun with you guys today!

Card #1
And then we played with the new colours!! Starting with the fabulous Winter Rainbow, it was between that or the Jelly Bean Sparkle. I’ve never seen Hot Foils like these before!

I wanted a bold image and the Good Vibes Only die was the perfect way to show off this foil. I also added some Colored Lights, but enamel dots would have looked fab too.

Card #2
Next I wanted to try foiling onto some Brushed Rose Metallic Cardstock. It was almost a tone-on-tone effect with the Pink Diamond Hot Foil and the Sweet Blooms background.

I added some flowers and a sentiment from the Sweet Bouquet set.

Card #3
Next I chose to play with the Frosted Glass Hot Foil and wanted to see what it looked like on some Black cardstock. The best thing about the Golden Days Hot Foil Plate is…

the coordinating stencils. I used pigment inks to add some subtle shading and a few gems in the centre (to cover just a little underfoiling 😉).

I LOve what you’ve done with your foiled pieces, Therese! If I had to pick a favorite I feel like you’d know which one I’d choose?
So fun – and such a brilliant trick from Chrissie! I’ll have to watch her video as I’m very curious about what prompted her to try the acetate the first time!

They are a fantastic store and now sell Altenew inks and Spellbinders etc. But it’s the foils that have my heart… and their cardstock lol.
