How to Create a Different LOOK Using Same Die (+ Video)!

Do you ever change up the look of your cards using mediums or textures? Today I share a couple of easy ways to make a difference

But first, I wanted to let you know that this is part of my Take 2 Series with Altenew and I’m so excited that you are joining me for another video today. Let’s begin with a peek at today’s cards…

Altenew - Wave Panel Die - Stunning Sakura - Linear Spiral - Circled Sentiments - Take 2 With Therese (card video) (1)

Let’s start by brightening someone’s day.  A rainbow card is always a ‘happy’ card so let’s make a…

Idea #1 – Watercolour Rainbow!

I blended Watercolors on some Watercolor Paper to create 2 simple blended rainbow watercolor backgrounds.  The great thing about blending in rainbow order is that the colors should play nice together without creating any ‘mud’.

I decided to ‘double-up’ this die on a landscape card design.

PRO TIP: Because the die is intricate and the cardstock is thick you may need to add a thin shim, each die cutting machine is different so it pays to test it first.

And I added a simple Circled Sentiments to the centre of the panels.

Idea #2 – Birch Wood Card Stock!

Let’s add some texture this time with some ‘real wood’.  Yes, the Birch Wood Card Stock is actually made from wood and I love the way that it looks on cards.  Did you know that as well as die cutting you can also stamp and heat emboss on it?  I really like the serene feel of the wood and the warmth that it gives to a card design.

I added a Stunning Sakura bloom which I ink blended very lightly in some pinks. did you know that you can use the Sticky Mat: Grid to hold your designs in place when ink blending, this is one of my new fave tricks!

And then I added a simple sentiment from the Linear Spiral Stamp Set.

  1. Therese, thanks for the inspiration. I have been saving my wood paper as well. My plan is to use some older things I have and give them an updated life. Love the oriental look and soft colirs.

    1. I love that the birch wood can make a design look modern or add that aged look, it’s a wonderful product! Hope you have fun with your designs Nancy!

  2. You might know already how much I love this die – but am I ever happy to have two more ways to love it!
LOve the gorgeous rainbow of waves, Therese! back to the drawing board because I happen to have that birchwood! xx

  3. Wonderful ideas, I love the double die cut and the wood look. Who really could pick a favorite between these two?

  4. What an absolutely gorgeous die. Both cards you created are beautiful, but there’s something about the soft colors, simple design and the dimensional birch die cut (that is a labor of love!) of the second card that really appeals to me. TFS your talent and inspiration once again. 💛

  5. Fantastic cards and I just love the soft and delicate rainbow effect works so beautifully with the die.the wood paper is brilliant and I can imagine so many uses for it.Thanks for the inspiration.

    Marie
