#1SETMULTIPLEWAYS

Has this ever happened to you? You’ve invested in a stamp set because you loved it and ‘had to have’ it. But, when it arrives you are lacking for ideas or inspiration.

Why not take the time to sit down and really look at the set and see what the options are. Try and think outside the box a little, are there any of those small hidden gem stamps (as I like to call them), or is there any image or sentiment that would work if it was partially stamped? Here are some of the ways that I will look at my stamp sets to get MORE from them.

MY SECRET TIPS:

  • Would this stamp set work with a ‘line-art’ technique.
  • Is it suited to Graphic Design ideas – colour blocking or die cut shapes to create a design.
  • Does the set include small ‘filler’ stamps – these can be used to build on a scene or even create a repeat stamped background.
  • Can the images be used to create a scene, or look great included in a scene.
  • Can this set be used with Partial Stamping techniques (either the images and/or sentiments).
  • Would the images look good ‘grouped’ together.
  • Why not make multiples of the same card, but colour each one differently… either with different colours or mediums.
  • PRO TIP: If you are going to challenge yourself to use just one set, I would make sure to choose one that included a few images as well as some sentiments.
  • But, of course you can also use these ideas with as many sets as you like 😉.
  • And, don’t worry, you do not have to reinvent the wheel, another tip, is to search the stamp set that you have on the internet where you will also find a ton of inspiration!

What Next?

Now that you have looked at the stamp set… why not sketch those ideas out on a piece of paper. Include which sentiments you are going to use, and maybe even a colour palette. Then, you can stamp out the images you need, colour and die cut in batches. This will make the process of creating multiple cards using the one set very quick and easy. But don’t worry, these sketches may not always work out exactly to plan, but that doesn’t matter, at least you have a great place to start and to build on!

Enough chat! It’s time to inspire YOU to create!!

Idea #1 – Clean & Simple

This one is not rocket science, but why not create a clean & simple design. Use an image as a focal point and add a sentiment.

This is a great place to start, with a new stamp set in particular, because you can get a ‘feel’ for the set and how you can use it. Plus… I like clean & simple cards 🎅.

Idea #2 – Graphic Block

There are MANY ways that this can be done. I used a set of 6 squares today, but you could also use circles or even layered rectangles. I like using multiple images and partial stamping, but another option is to repeat the same image on each block. OR you could stamp a large image, such as a Christmas Tree (or anything really), and cut this into 6 blocks.

I stepped it up and added a partial stamped sentiment on one of the blocks.

Idea #3 – Group Images

Another great way to stretch a stamp set is to create a ‘group of images’. Again, this can be different images but you could even use the same one and maybe colour each a different colour. I decided to make ‘an almost one layer card’ so I masked the centre Santa before stamping the two on each side.

BONUS IDEA: Instead of masking, you could stamp the images and die cut them then layer them onto the card front to create a ‘group’ instead.

Idea #4 – Create a Scene

This one is a favourite! I love looking at an image and seeing how it can be used in a ‘scene’. Sometimes this can be done using the stamps included in the set or you can create your own scene, as I have done here.

Again, I only used a partial image so that it looked like the Santa was half way down the chimney. And my roof top and chimney were very easy to make using some 3D embossing folders. But, you could also use stencils or even draw roof tiles and bricks with a marker to make your own scene.

Idea #5 – Bonus Scene

And I couldn’t leave Santa stuck in the chimney… Yes, he did make it into the fireplace. I used the same ‘brickwork’ 3D embossing folder for the wall and of course this time I only needed a ‘set of Santa’s feet’. Another fun option could be to have Santa coming down the chimney head first 😂.

Another scene idea could be to place Santa on a snowy hill with some Christmas trees, or why not create a beach Santa holding a surf board! the possibilities are endless.

  1. Oh, oh, OH!! Do I love your creative brain!! Such a fun way to stretch our stash – or something new, too! A favorite? Most definitely those graphic blocks! ALL fantastic, Therese!
    =] Michele

  2. Really great cards. I’ve looked at this set several times, but never been tempted to buy it. I think you’ve changed my mind! I can’t choose one, there are three that I particularly love, but for you I’ll choose two and they are the Three Santas and the Graphic Block cards (but I love the clean and simple Santa too!).

    1. I do love Santa stamp sets and to be honest there are not many around, so I was excited to see this one. And these sketchy images certainly add a different style to the set which I think helps it stand out and gives a different look to a ‘cute’ style image. I am so happy you enjoyed these cards Delia, I certainly had fun making them!

  3. Just curious, which paper did you use for water coloring the Santa’s? I see two types listed, so I wasn’t sure.

    1. Hi Jeanie, These papers are the same it’s just the ‘size’ that is different, A4 US which is 8.5 X 11″ and the Metric A4 version for Australia, Europe etc. Hope this helps if not let me know. Hugs Therese
