How to Make UNIQUE Inked Flowers & 2 Beautiful Cards + Video!

Did you know that you can change the look of a die-cut flower? Yes, it’s true, no two flowers will ever be the same… just like in the real world!

But first… Did you also know that this video is part of my Take 2 With Therese series of videos that I create for Altenew? You can check out the full playlist right HERE for more inspiration.

I recently made a card for a Hop with Altenew and I had multiple requests to share how I created it… You can see it right HERE.

And, as you may already know, I do not like to make the same card twice so I changed it up to the Craft-A-Flower: Magnolia and thought it would be fun to add an extra version too!

My first and fave version uses Alcohol Ink Backgrounds to create the bouquet. These are so easy to make and of course I had to add a little something extra with a foil element yet again.

I do have to say that my favourite part of this card would have to be the ‘ombre’ style sentiment from the Sweet Sentiments Die Set. I used left-over alcohol inked background to create this and it worked perfectly.

BONUS IDEA: Not a fan of Alcohol Ink? Why not create a watercolour panel or a smooshed ink background to get a similar (and also unpredictable) result!

For my second card design I decided to ‘re-create’ the same card except this time I used Altenew’s Crisp Dye Inks to blend each die cut piece.

I find that if I cut the pieces before I add the colour, then I can keep it more along the pastel colour range.

Though I did change it up a little by adding a Ribbon Waves 3D Embossed background.

I hope you are inspired to create a card with an Alcohol-Ink or Ink-Blended flower! And if you do, I’d love to see it so please tag me on social media!

  1. Oh, Therese! Another ef for the wishlist! [now why didn’t I wait one more sleep to shop?]
Two magnificent cards using that lovely magnolia!
    =]

  2. I like the pale magnolia better because with the embossed background it looks like a water lily and I’ll less mess making it! 🙂

  3. I love both of these, the colours truly are beautiful and I can see why you love this particular flower, the layers make for a stunning eye catching creation. Thank you for sharing

  4. Both flowers are beautiful, but I tend to like lighter colors so I would choose the lighter magnolia. A lot of times I leave some of the leaf layers off when I do layered stamping. Some times the leaves are harder to line up than the flowers!

  5. Dear Theresa
I just adore this subscription and you are totally to blame for my addiction.

    Both cards are stunning!
    Cheers
    Lisa

  6. Both flowers are gorgeous, Therese. I always love the way alcohol ink looks but the soft pastels of ink blending give a serene look to the card. I still haven’t done a card with the gel print soft washes I HAD to get after seeing you do a similar flower with them. This video might get me moving in that direction.

  7. Those flowers look so real, your designs are incredible and so beautiful. I’ve never tried alcohol inks, so you have definitely impressed me with your lovely results. Xx

  8. Both flowers are beautiful. I like the white flower back that you chose on the pale version vs the darker back. But your alcohol ink flower is just as spectacular!
