What, hold the bus! Altenew has NEW Inks? I just had to put them to the TEST and I have 4 Techniques to share with you!
But first, this post is part of a Hop celebrating this new release from Altenew so you should have arrived here from SEEKA’s wonderful Blog.
Introducing Altenew’s innovative round ink pads! The high viscosity dye inks (slightly different from our existing dye ink) are rich and vibrant and will stamp perfectly alongside others in your collection. The modern and minimalist round ink cases feature a felt pad and were custom-designed with the user in mind. All it takes is a simple twist to open the lid and you’ll be ready for your next crafty project!
Let’s see how they work…
Technique #1 – Layered Stamping
In classic Altenew style, I decided to begin with layered stamping. I used the Build-A-Flower: Peony because it is a big bloom, I knew that would test the ink coverage over such a large area. I’m a happy girl here, it worked a treat.

I also used the inks to brush some ‘watercolour’ strokes in the background and ‘splat’.

Technique #2 – Watercolouring
Any water-based ink can be used for watercolouring, but I wanted to see how these new inks compared. The Blue Mountains colours were perfect for this Paint-A-Flower: Hydrangea and they didn’t disappoint.
I added the ink directly to a palette and used the Round Brushes to add water and to pick up and paint the colour.

The colours stayed nice and vibrant and moved well on the Watercolor Paper.

Technique #3 – Layered Stencils
Next, I thought I would test out how the colours layered through a stencil. I used the Bitterroot Flower Layering Stencil and the Altenew Blending Brushes. I am surprised by the intensity of these colours, check out how bright these blues are!

And the greens in the Frosted Foliage Set make my heart happy. Did you see there is a colour called Eucalyptus?

Technique #4 – Ink Blending
Now, let’s face it, if an ink can’t hold up to blending in today’s papercrafty world then it’s not worth having. It’s become a ‘go-to’ technique in so many ways.
So, here I decided to blend the whole background in an ombre style. I used 80lb Neenah cardstock and the Large Altenew Blending Brushes. But then, I took it a step further and also blended extra cardstock and did some inking direct to paper to create the die-cut petals for my Craft-A-Flower: Open Peony.

I was surprised at how easily these colours blended, I’m wondering if there is some magic involved lol?

My thoughts on these inks so far:
Pros: Great ink coverage. Awesome vibrancy. They reacted extremely well with water for painting/splatting with little loss of colour. They also blended beautifully on Neenah cardstock.
Cons: I love the look of the cute round packaging, but I’ve never used any round ink pads before and I’m still getting used to them.
I hope you are enjoying this hop, next you are off to see some amazing creations by MINDY right HERE. See you again real soon. Hugs,

Love the cards and colors. The blue colors are so pretty.
Really, the only inks I “currently” own are some reinkers, and TH distress & oxide inks, which I absolutely love! But I need good stamping inks, and these colors are perfect for me! I love the round containers, and that they twist closed. Less lids flopping open, and drying out because they don’t close tight. Brilliant!
Beautiful cards! Really like those new inks!
