Do you need an Ocean of inspiration? Today, I have 2 great ideas to bring the beach to your card designs!
I was thinking about it recently, and I believe that ocean elements can be used for nearly any occasion? They are timeless, serene, perfect for masculine, feminine as well as children’s cards! Spellbinders has a new release called Seahorse Kisses and it is so much fun to create with!

Recently I was swatching my pencils and was inspired to get them out again, hence…
Idea #1 – No Line Colouring
I think pencils are a perfect choice for these seashells! Colouring these sweet images from Seahorse Garden without an outline adds a certain kind of realism. But using pencils also adds that little bit of texture that you see in shells too.
BONUS IDEA: Wouldn’t these shells look great watercoloured!

My background literally took seconds to create, I masked and blended a quick rectangle and stamped the sentiment.

Then, I wanted to add just a little dimension so I popped up the shells with some foam tape, but you could adhere them directly onto the card front.
PRO TIP: After completing the pencil coloring, use a white gel pen to add highlights.

Idea #2 – Hot Foil Outline
When an image is this beautiful, no colouring is needed!
Dawn Woleslagle is an incredible artist, we are lucky to have her designing amazing images like this, to inspire our cards.

I chose a piece of ivory cardstock and some Pastel Hot Foil for the Seahorse Floral.

I also popped up the sentiment and added a small splatter of pale pink pearls.
BONUS IDEA: These foiled designs are so easy to create why not make a bunch at once. They would be fabulous in multiple colour variations and make a great gift card set!

Thank you my friend x
Both of these are so gorgeous. They very serene.
Thank you so much Carolyn!
Oh my goodness, those seashells are out of this world! Amazing coloring, Therese! I like the simplicity of the lovely seahorse card. The pink pearls are a wonderful accent!
I know right, these Spellbinders pearls are such pretty colours, I’ve always loved pearls on designs!
Your seashells look so realistic, Therese. Wonderful pencil coloring.
Thank you so much Bobby!
I love the ocean and its images. Sea shells, in particular, are favorites. These are perfect images to show off your techniques. Thanks for sharing these.
I agree ocean images are wonderful and really versatile too, for men, women, kids, happy cards or even sympathy… there is an ocean of choice (pardon the pun)
These are lovely and the soft ivory is a beautiful choice.
This is one of those cards that looks even better IRL (you know what I mean lol). Thank you my friend x

It’s been a while since I’ve used my pencils and I really enjoyed it!
