Are you ready to see some MORE BetterPress ideas? I am still pushing this system to see where it will go and today I have another technique to share!
But first, I wanted to let you know that this is part of my Take 2 Series with Altenew and I’m so excited that you are joining me for another video today. Let’s begin with a peek at today’s cards…
Letterpress is a technique of ‘relief printing’ where the raised surface of letters or images is inked and then pressed into paper. Would you believe this technique has been around since the 15th century, and the result is divine!
Idea #1 – Classic Letterpress!
Now, we have the ability to create a similar look in card making, using the new BetterPress system. Altenew has released Press Plates which are compatible with this system and today I am using the Floral Engravings set. Classic letterpress is perfect for clean and simple designs as it uses white space, texture and simple color palettes.
Did you know that you can use Altenew’s Fresh Dye Inks with the Press Plates? Today I wanted to recreate the ‘classic’ letterpress look so used Frayed Leaf Ink and pressed it twice onto the cotton panel.
BONUS IDEA: Did you know that you ‘hot foil’ the Press Plates?
I added a simple Fancy Hello Die sentiment to keep the design clean and simple.
Idea #2 – Woodless Coloring Pencils!
For my second design, I wanted to see how the inks blended on the cotton panels. The result was smooth and the ink blending was easy to do!
But, I didn’t want to leave it there, so I decided to try some colouring using the Woodless Coloring Pencils. And the cotton surface of the paper gave it a lovely textured finish.
The sentiment I used on this card is called the Fancy Enjoy Die.

I haven’t had a chance to try it yet… we see camping at the moment but I did get a comment from someone who tried pigment inks with success. I definitely have more plans for these supplies!
