Did you know that it is easy to make multiple card designs using only a few supplies? Today I share 5 FUN ideas
I am back with another Same But Different Christmas Series 2024 set of cards and today I am sharing 5 Ideas to Make 5 FUN Cards using Minimal Supplies, and I have a video walking you through these techniques.
Now let’s get to it… would you like to see today’s cards?

#MINIMALSUPPLIES
There are many ways to create cards with minimal supplies, you can limit yourself to using ‘1 Stamp Set’, like I did in this video HERE (from 2023). Or, you can create repeat card designs and change up colour combos… or, why not try my idea today, and draw some simple images to create 5 bright FUN designs!
TODAY’s TIPS:
- Choose a medium that you feel comfortable using, it may be paints, alcohol markers or even pencils. Today I used acrylic markers which are opaque and water-based.
- Sketch out some simple design ideas.
- Transfer these designs to A2 card panels using a pencil (keep the design light, or erase most of it away before colouring if you are using a medium that is ‘see through’. You can test this on a scrap piece of paper first if you like).
- Use shapes to draw ‘around’ if you need to, such as a circle dies or even stencils.
- Think outside the box, adding a ‘Santa Hat’ can make a non-Christmassy image into a fun and interesting design such as the ‘cactus’ that I created today. Obviously this style of card is not for everyone, but there are many easy-to-draw images that can be fun to add a Santa Hat to, such as cats, gnomes… I’ve even added one to a shark once lol.
BONUS TIP: Don’t feel like you have to ‘draw’ it all, if you have a stamp and die of a Santa hat that suits, why not add that instead! - I used a variety of sentiments, but if you don’t have one that suits your project then why not hand write the sentiment? Or, if you find that a scary thought, print some from a computer and cut them out into strips with a paper trimmer.
- MORE IDEAS? I have given you some fun designs to start your journey, but I am sure you can think of many more. For example: a poinsettia, snowman, a pair of bells, plum pudding, an angel, a string of lights… OR, alter the images I created, instead of a stick tree, draw 3 triangle trees in a row, instead of a leafy wreath, create a bokeh look with dots and circles to create the wreath shape.
Enough chat! It’s time to inspire YOU to create!!
Idea #1 – Cactus
Adding a ‘Santa Hat’ and voila this cactus can now enjoy Christmas with us! And, wouldn’t it look great wrapped in a string of Christmas lights!

I think that adding details such as this Snow Effect, on the Santa hat, can really take a simple card design to the next level!
PRO TIP: The images do not have to be ‘perfect’, this is one of the best parts of this fun technique.

Idea #2 – Stick Tree
I think my ideal Christmas tree would be a stick, it would be so easy to assemble 🎄.

I added dimension throughout today’s designs, but remember that this is optional. You can always adhere the elements directly to the cards, to help keep postage costs to a minimum.

Idea #3 – Bauble
There had to be a bauble today, and I decided to hang it from the branches of a tree. Although, drawing multiple baubles in different shapes and sizes would also look wonderful, you could even hang them from a stick branch!

The great thing about these Acrylic Markers is that they are very forgiving. Because they are opaque a mistake can easily be ‘covered’ with another colour… or some bling!

Idea #4 – Holly
Holly leaves are not my favourite to draw, but I really like the look of them on a Christmas card. This was a definite ‘draw with a pencil first’ moment for me. You may prefer to draw a Poinsettia, the leaf shape is easier 😊.

Don’t be afraid to mix up colours. I used a pink for the berries and added red to shade, I think it adds to the bright fun feel of the design.

Idea #5 – Wreath
You knew it was coming… it’s time for the wreath. Such a simple shape that can be ‘decorated’ or drawn in many different ways. I did quick simple strokes of the markers, but you could draw small leaves, dots/circles or even make a wreath of stars!

And, the best thing is that you can ‘bling’ it as much as your heart desires! Because these markers are opaque I could have used them for the ‘bling’, but thought some sparkle was needed, these cute Glitter Drops made their way onto a few of today’s cards.

Can you see how liberating it is to ‘draw’ your own designs. They can be any image, size or style and coloured in any medium that you have. I’d love to know if you are inspired to try any of today’s ideas?
And, if YOU have a favourite card today? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t forget to share your creations with me on Social Media, it would be fabulous to see what you make!

Thank you my friend x
So wonderful and I LOVE that you drew them!
It was fun to do!
I wondered where you got such a big cactus stamp! Then I watched the video. You are inspiring – most people are scared to draw or write on their cards. My favourites are the leafy branches and wreath.
So glad you enjoyed these Christine, they were fun to make for sure!
So clever. Lovely cards. 🙂
Thank you Vicki!
