What’s louder than a bold sentiment? A bold sentiment with florals to match!

Who says only one element can take centre stage on a card? Today, I’m pairing bold sentiments with big beautiful florals… because sometimes more is more (in the best possible way).

#BOLDSENTIMENTS-BIGBLOOMS

These two handmade cards show how to let large sentiments shine alongside impactful floral designs!

Card #1 – With Sympathy

This sympathy card has a quiet elegance, with soft ink-blended florals that fill the front without overwhelming it.

Altenew - Prairie Roses - Versatile Greetings 3 Die - (cards) (6)

The large sentiment sits boldly across the design, clear, heartfelt, and impossible to miss. It adds balance to the soft background and helps guide the eye across the card in a really natural way.

Tips to try:

  • Let your florals take up space, no need to tuck them into corners!
  • Choose a large sentiment with clean lines so it’s easy to read against detailed backgrounds.
  • Soften strong design elements with a muted color palette… think gentle pinks, soft greens, or warm neutrals.
  • I added a few ink splatters to soften the look even more.

Card # 2 – Just For You

This card brings on the party in floral style! With a large floral bloom covering most of the background and a full-sized A2 shaker panel… the only thing that made it even better was to fill it with a ton of sparkly sequins.

Altenew - Prairie Roses - Versatile Greetings 3 Die - Stellar Sequins - Clear Iridescent (cards) (8)

It’s the kind of card that says “I’m here, I’m happy, and I sparkle.”

Tips to try:

  • A transparent shaker window gives your sentiment room to float… literally!
  • When both your florals and sentiment are large, use a central layout to balance the design.
  • Or use floral placement to “frame” your sentiment to keep it from getting lost in the shuffle (or the shaker bits).
  • Why not add the flowers to the outside of the shaker window.
  • Add multiple words to create the exact sentiment you want, or why not use large alpha dies instead!

  1. Sympathy cards are so hard to make. I like the way you had the letters raised in yours so that they are above the floral image. The message stands out, but lets the flowers show through. Love the full card shaker window. Fun card for anyone!

  2. Love these cards! The simple colors, the large floral and the large sentiment make such a statement! Thank you for the inspiration.

  3. I love the way you used the large floral on the sympathy card. Thank you for the idea, as I get stuck on sympathy card ideas.
BTW, I really like your videos, and enjoy your teaching style.

  4. Such beautiful cards! Your color palette is just WHOA. I love how it complements the sentiment and is both emotional and subtle. So, so lovely. Thank you for sharing!

  5. I really like the idea of hand making sympathy cards. This little touch of attention and caring will mean so much to the person going through a hard time. I’m going to have to do these cards and have them ready for when I need them. Thanks for your ideas.

  6. Very calming cards. Nice addition of large sentiments and large background. Also the white spaces that add a nice touch.

  7. Beautiful cards! I love the shaker card. Those sequins give the flowers just a little something extra. I love the use of big sentiments too. I do that often with my cards.

  8. Simply stunning, the bold sentiments take these cards to another level. I’ve always been afraid to use them in case I overshadowed the image below, but you have made them work so well, I’m tempted to give it a go. Thank you for the inspiration.

    1. I did have a comment or two which mentioned too much covering the flower, but I thought it was a fun option… and I can always make the card again with just a small sentiment if I wanted more of the flowers to show 😉
