#CARDS4MEN
Making cards for men can be… tricky. Sometimes it feels like you’re stuck between “too plain” and “too fussy,” and it’s hard to find that sweet spot where the design really stands out. Masculine cards don’t have to be boring, though! With a few clever ideas – you can create cards that are memorable, meaningful, and maybe even a little unexpected.
Here are some of my go-to tips for making masculine cards that really stand out:
Masculine Card Go-To Tips
- Personalize: Add names, hobbies, or interests to make the card feel special and meaningful.
- Add a fun fold or interactive element: Stand out from ordinary cards and make the design memorable.
- Incorporate humour: A small joke or playful element adds personality without going overboard.
- Use bold colors and contrast: Masculine cards don’t have to be dull – strong colors and contrast grab attention.
- Build a scene or theme: Cars, tools, sports, retro vibes, or anything the person you are making the card for loves, will make it unique.
- Step up a basic design: Layer elements, add texture, or try a subtle background effect, like this retro sunset, to make a simple card more interesting.
TOP TIP: Did you know that a personalized card is more likely to be displayed on a shelf?
Ready to Stand Out?
This card was made just for my Dad – I even bought this die set with him in mind! He’s always loved cars, and his first job was as a mechanic. In fact, he’s my go-to person whenever I have any car-related questions. 🥰

I decided to add a retro vibe to match this classic car, and the blended sunset background really sets the scene. Not to mention the accordian-fold card base… it adds so much dimension yet the card still fits perfectly in a regular envelope.

I noticed a big gap in my stamp collection today—I couldn’t find a single set that celebrated Father’s Day! Looks like I might have to do a little shopping again.🤫 In the meantime, I settled on this gorgeous banner, and of course, I’ll be writing my message on the back.

What would I change about this card?
If I made this card again, I’d use the same pale blue cardstock for the accordion sides as I did for the front panel – it would make everything look even more cohesive. I did add a couple of small strips of cardstock above and below the oval window for extra stability (maybe a bit overkill, but that’s just how I roll 😄).
I personalized this card for my father, added interest with the ink blended sunset and of course, the accordian fun-fold – tick, tick, tick! This masculine card truly stands out!
I’d love to see what you make – share your men’s card designs in the comments or tag me on social media so I can see your creations!

Therese, it sure seems like the word ‘Daddy-o’ should be included in that sentiment! ha! What a fantastic card for your car-loving dad.
=]
That would be perfect Michele! Another suggestion was to add ‘DAD’ as a number plate… but I have already sent the card, I’ve left it a bit late it’s only a week away and Australia Post is sketchy lol.
What a special card for your car loving dad! I love everything about it, Therese!
You are the sweetest, thank you Lisa!
