Black & White with a Pop of Rainbow: Modern Butterfly Cards!

You’ve seen my rainbow florals… now let’s try something different.

Today I’m sharing a Rainbow Butterfly Card created for the Altenew April 2026 release – and it all started with a leftover piece of rainbow cardstock from my scrap orphan pile.

Let’s take a quick peek at today’s card!

Thanks a bunch 🥰!

So, where did I start today?
I had a strip of rainbow cardstock sitting in my scrap pile, too pretty to toss. The new zero waste butterfly dies were the perfect solution. I love how they create multiple layered pieces in one pass – and if you want to, you can use the negative space for a quick background too.

Card Inspiration – Rainbow Butterflies

Black and white with a pop of rainbow… butterflies – what could be more perfect!

I was in the mood for something modern and pretty, and apparently the rainbows just keep on coming. I layered the die cuts to create three butterflies – an odd number always feels more balanced in a design.

To step it up a notch, I brought in brushed gold cardstock, tying it together with a coordinating die cut sentiment and gold accents on the butterfly bodies.

This design proves that rainbows aren’t just for flowers. Pair them with strong black and white elements and suddenly they feel fresh and contemporary.

Black & White with a Pop of Rainbow Butterfly – Give It a Try!

Why not? You know you want to 😉
I used cardstock that I colored myself, but this idea would work just as well with rainbow design paper from your stash. The key is keeping the background graphic so the color really stands out.

And if you’re still loving the rainbow vibe, you can find more rainbow floral inspiration here and here.

And if you loved this idea, stay tuned – I’ll be sharing more rainbow butterfly inspiration very soon.
In the meantime, I’d love to hear how you’ve used rainbows in your cards – tell me in the comments below!
Happy papercrafting,

Special thanks to my crafty assistant, Chad (aka ChatGPT), for helping me stay on track with my Gemini brain, grammar, and spelling… well, all the things! 😄

  1. Rainbow butterflies?? YES, please! I do wish those we ‘bloom’ on our front porch would follow your lead, Therese! I adore them resting on that cool black stamped floral!
