Cardmaking Color Ideas: Same Palette, Different Results – Altenew Blog Hop + Giveaway!

Do you really need new colors to create a fresh design… or just a new way to use them?

If you enjoyed my previous card using this color palette, I’ve got another design to share with you today – this time with a completely different look using the exact same colors

But first, let’s take a quick look at the cards together.

Two handmade Altenew cards using the same color palette in different ways with floral die cut and antique chair designs by Therese Calvird

Thanks a bunch 🥰!

It’s a great example of how changing the balance of your colors can completely transform a design.

Here’s the same color palette again.

Card Inspiration – Antique Chair

For this card, I used the same color palette – but changed how the colors were distributed to create a completely different look.

By choosing different elements and using the same palette in varying proportions, the overall feel of the design shifts dramatically. The antique chair becomes the main feature, and I used the misty moor shade to highlight the decorative frame, giving it an almost golden look. It’s a subtle change, but it makes a big impact.

To bring everything together, I added a light stenciled flourish background across the whole panel, even over the bouquet. This soft layer of detail helps to fill the background without competing with the focal point.

I hope this gives you some fresh cardmaking color ideas and shows how much impact you can get from a single palette. By simply changing how the colors are used, you can create completely different designs without reaching for anything new.

I’d love to hear how you approach your color choices – do you stick with one palette or like to mix things up each time?

Happy Papercrafting!

Special thanks to my crafty assistant, Chad (aka ChatGPT), for helping me stay on track with my Gemini brain, grammar, and spelling… well, all the things! 😄

  1. The colors you used are ones that I always wanted for my curtains. Just love how well they play together! The furniture in this release is so realistic and I am loving how the designers are using the pieces in their cards. Thanks for showing us 2 beautiful cards with this release.
