Do you ever sit down to make a masculine card… and suddenly forget everything you know? 😆
Welcome to my Same But Different series, where we look at getting similar results using different tools… and this one is a really easy way to stretch your stash.
I’ve been focusing on embossing folders lately, and today I’m using one to create a simple masculine embossing folder card – with an easy ombre blend and plenty of texture doing the work for me.
If you want to catch up on what we’ve made so far, you can check out the full playlist here.

Why Embossing Folders Work for Masculine Cards
Embossing folders are one of my favourite go-to tools when I’m creating masculine cards.
They instantly add texture and interest without needing lots of layers or embellishments – which is often what makes masculine designs feel tricky.
Think about patterns like:
- knits and textures (like this sweater design)
- geometrics
- woodgrain
- stripes or subtle repeats
These give you a strong background without overwhelming the design.
Card Inspiration – Ombre Sweater Texture
For this card, I wanted to keep things simple but still interesting. Instead of a traditional ombre from top to bottom, I blended the colour towards the centre, keeping the lightest area right where I wanted the focus to be within the sweater pattern.
Then I embossed the panel using a sweater embossing folder – and this is where the magic happens. The texture adds depth without adding bulk, and you may also notice that the blended ink edges soften a little over time.

In true masculine style, I kept the sentiment bold… but I did step just a little outside the boundaries by adding a sneaky cute critter – ssssh, don’t tell! 🐧

Give It a Try!
Are you going to give a masculine embossing folder card a try? If you’ve got embossing folders sitting in your stash, this is a great way to use them in a fresh way.
Try changing:
- the direction of your ombre
- the texture pattern
- or even swap the sentiment for something bold and graphic
I’d love to see what you make – tag me or share your card on social media so I can see.
Happy papercrafting,

Special thanks to my crafty assistant, Chad (aka ChatGPT), for helping me stay on track with my Gemini brain, grammar, and spelling… well, all the things! 😄
