Ocean Open Scene Cards with Tropical Layers | Altenew June Blog Hop + Giveaway!

I may have become a little obsessed with creating open scene cards 🐠

After making my interactive ocean scene card for release day, I couldn’t resist creating a couple more tropical underwater designs using the same collection. This time, instead of a window easel fold, I focused on layered open scenes to create depth and draw your eye right into the card design.

But first, let’s take a quick look at the cards together.

Thanks a bunch 🥰!

One of my favourite things about these cards is how much depth you can create just by popping up a few layers and leaving parts of the design open. It really draws your eye right into the underwater scene.

Card #1 – Ocean Open Scene Card with a Layered Turtle

Who said water has to be blue, I used bright oranges and pinks to layer the nesting pond elements and create a bold tropical underwater scene.

To enhance the depth and open feel of the design, I double popped up the very base layer for extra dimension.

To finish the card, I added some sparkly sequins (aka bubbles) along with a fun layered sea turtle in bright teal green tones.

Card #2 – Clean and Simple Coral Reef Open Scene Card

For my second design, I took a more clean and simple approach while still keeping that open scene feel. I inset a bright pink coral reef arch and popped up the panel over a soft teal background to add subtle depth without lots of layers.

I added a bright orange anemone fish along with a simple black stamped sentiment at the base of the card.

I used to love diving with anemone fish… they were so fun to watch popping in and out of their anemones!

  1. Cute cards! I love how you used orange and pink with the Ocean Windows die- something different! The blue turtle really pops!

  2. There’s our favorite color combo: pink and orange! Works just beautifully under the sea! Turtle-y awesome, dudette – and so is the pink coral!
