2 Elegant Poinsettia Christmas Cards with Soft Ink Blending | Altenew July Release

Who says poinsettias have to be red?

I adore poinsettias, especially for Christmas cardmaking, but they come in so many beautiful colors. White is one of my favourites, so today I’m sharing two ways to create elegant poinsettia Christmas cards created in a soft white.

Let’s take a look at today’s cards!

Two handmade poinsettia cards featuring white flowers with soft pistachio green ink blending, golden highlights, and layered die-cut sentiments.

Poinsettia Christmas Cards

White flowers can sometimes feel a little tricky on cards, because you still need enough detail to help the petals stand out. One of my favourite ways to add depth is with very soft ink blending in the centre, then a slightly darker shade on the outer leaves or petals. It keeps the flowers looking white, but gives them just enough contrast to make the design feel finished

Card #1 – Layered Die Cut Poinsettia Card

For my first card, I used the layered die cut poinsettia design. I was especially excited to see this layering die and embossing folder combination, as one of my all-time favourite Altenew poinsettias is their layered poinsettia die.

This version gives you a few extra options. You can use the poinsettias with or without the vein details, and because those details are debossed with the embossing folder rather than cut into the die itself, you can choose how much texture you want to add.

Using the darker green leaves in the background really helped those white “petals” stand out – though technically, on a poinsettia, they are leaves too. 🤔

And if you are a fan of dimension, you are going to love the new foam squares. They come in lots of handy sizes, and of course I had to stack mine even higher to pop up this golden sentiment.

Card #2 – 3D Embossed Poinsettia Card

For my second card, I used the 3D embossing folder with the coordinating stencil. This is such an easy way to create a poinsettia design with lots of detail, because the embossing folder adds the texture and the stencil helps you place the color exactly where you want it.

I kept the same soft white, pistachio, and gold color palette, but this time the look is a little more subtle and textured.

The ink blending through the stencil adds just enough color to define the poinsettias, while still keeping the flowers a pretty off-white.

Give White Flowers a Try

I hope these poinsettia Christmas cards inspire you to give white flowers a try. They don’t need a lot of color to stand out – just a little soft shading, some contrast, and maybe a golden highlight or two.

Happy papercrafting,

Special thanks to my crafty assistant, Chad (aka ChatGPT), for helping me stay on track with my Gemini brain, grammar, and spelling… well, all the things! 😄
