Choosing colors doesn’t have to be complicated…
We’re kicking off my new Simple Cards with Something Extra mini-series with COLOR – and one of my favorite ways to make choosing colors easier is to simply start with one.
For these Christmas cards, that one color was mint. From there, I created two different looks using the same starting point… and it also happens to tie in perfectly with something I’m very excited to share today – Color Made Easy for Cardmakers is now open!
But first, let’s take a look at today’s cards!

Easy Christmas Card Idea
Sometimes just knowing where to start is all you need. And when it comes to color, why not begin with just one? Choose a favorite, pick a color that suits the season, or challenge yourself to use one you rarely reach for.
For these cards, I started with mint – then built the rest of the color palette from there.
Card #1 – Complementary Mint and Red
I wanted to make a Christmas card, so of course my mind went straight to the classic red and green combination – with a fresh minty twist. I also remembered an unused die set from last year that needed some love, and once I saw that cute little car, red was the obvious winner.

I brought in some neutrals and added a little extra texture with white snowflakes and a glittery tree. These details help balance the bold red and add just a little more interest to this easy Christmas card idea.

Card #2 – Still Complementary Mint and Pink
For the bonus card, I started with the same mint background but swapped the bright red for soft pink. Because pink is simply a lighter tint of red, it still gives me that complementary red-and-green relationship – just with a softer look.

I kept the white snowflakes and glittery tree again, so the main change really is the color. Same starting point, same design idea, but a very different finish.

If choosing colors is something that tends to slow you down, try starting with just one and build from there – it really can make the whole process feel easier.
