Poinsettia Color Combinations!
Changing the color combination can completely shift the mood of a design – from bright and playful to soft and elegant, earthy, modern or beautifully traditional. It’s one of the easiest ways to make the same supplies feel fresh again, and you might be surprised by which colors become your favourite!
If you’re not sure where to start, I’ve put together the color recipes I used for today’s cards so you can try them for yourself.
Want to keep the recipes handy? Download the printable version below.
Card #1 – Red + Green
Flowers: Pink Pearl, Coral Bliss, Heart Beat, Berry Mocha
Leaves: Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Evergreen
Berries: Antique Olive, Olove
Stems: Frayed Leaf
Flower Centres: Antique Olive
I started with the traditional red and green poinsettia combo – it’s always a good place to start and gives me a feel for the design before I start having a little more fun with the colors.

And when it came to the assembly, that’s where I really had some play time. I cut the panel to create a bold centrepiece, popped it up for dimension, and paired it with a bold sentiment to match.

Card #2 – Plum + Olive
Flowers: Pink Crystal, Mauve, Berrylicious, Acai Berry
Leaves: Honeydew Glow, Antique Olive, Olove, Sugar Kelp
Berries: Pink Crystal, Mauve
Stems: Antique Olive
Flower Centres: Honeydew Glow, Antique Olive
Plum and olive doesn’t stray too far from the comfort zone, but it still gives the poinsettias a richer, slightly moodier look.

This time I used the whole panel and die cut an arch from the centre. I stamped the sentiment at the top, then popped the arch back up so the design flows across the card.

Card #3 – Pink + Lime
Flowers: Pink Diamond, Pinkalicious, Rubellite, Razzleberry
Leaves: Bamboo, Parrot, Olive, Moss
Berries: Bamboo, Parrot
Stems: Olive
Flower Centres: Bamboo
Pink and lime takes things in a much brighter, fresher direction and gives the poinsettias a fun, modern feel.

You may have noticed I changed things up a little along the way. I didn’t emboss every panel – in fact, for the first two cards I kept things simple and used just the stencil.

Card #4 – Apricot + Sage
Flowers: Peachy Glow, Peachy Keen, Apricot Frost
Leaves: Silver Sprout, Sagestone, Olive Grove, Mossy Granite
Berries: Silver Sprout, Sagestone
Stems: Olive Grove
Flower Centres: Olive Grove
For this one I went soft and pretty with apricot and sage, and I even got brave and started with a coloured panel… okay, it was ivory, but it still counts!

This felt like the perfect place for a gold heat-embossed sentiment and a few gold splatters. And just to change things up again, I flipped the panel upside down for this design.

Card #5 – Mustard + Glue-Green
Flowers: Icy Lemonade, Oolong Tea, Citronella, Green Gold
Leaves: Frosted Seaglass, Coastal Haze, Misty Harbor, Green Onyx
Berries: Frosted Seaglass, Coastal Haze
Stems: Citronella
Flower Centres: Green Onyx
Another flipped panel, but this one feels much more dramatic in mustard and blue-green. This time I kept the sentiment simple and stamped it directly onto the floral panel in that same deep blue-green shade.

This reminds me of those golden poinsettias that you sometimes see during the holiday season.

Card #6 – Blue-Grey Monochromatic
Flowers: Misty Morning, Cloudy Sky, Nimbus, Dark Night
Leaves: Cloudy Sky, Nimbus, Dark Night
Berries: Cloudy Sky, Nimbus, Dark Night
Stems: Misty Morning
Flower Centres: Dark Night
And finally, I went monochromatic with these beautiful blue-grey tones. I used Spicy Yogurt cardstock for this one, which has a lovely off-white speckled finish and adds just a little extra texture without taking away from the soft color palette.

BONUS IDEA: Monochromatic can still give you loads of variety as long as you stay within one colour family. Think red, teal-blue, purple, grey or even just green!
