What if you could give your die cut flower cards a softer, more delicate look?
Want to give your die cut flower cards a softer, more delicate look? Today I’m sharing 3 simple ways to add softness using gentle colour, beautiful texture and a little something unexpected!
But first, let’s take a look at today’s card!

5 EASY WAYS TO SOFTEN YOUR CARD DESIGNS
- Choose gentle colors – Try pastels, muted tones or lighter shades of your favorite inks.
- Add subtle texture – Think watercolor cardstock, crepe paper, vellum or even fabric.
- Soften your ink blending – Use a larger blending brush and a lighter hand for delicate shading.
- Leave some white space – Give your design room to breathe for a lighter, airier feel.
- Keep embellishments delicate – Try clear sequins, tiny pearls or subtle splatters instead of bold accents.
BONUS TIP: Soft doesn’t have to mean washed out! A little contrast, such as a black sentiment or deeper shading, can help those softer elements shine.
Card Inspiration – Soft & Delicate Crepe Paper Poppies
For this die cut flower card, I used three simple ideas to create a softer, more delicate look.
Instead of cardstock, I die cut the poppies from fine crepe paper, gently shaped the petals and added a little ink blending around the edges for a more realistic look.

I chose soft shades of pink for the flowers, with subtle shading and white highlights to add dimension without overpowering the design.
For the background, I used the textured side of watercolor cardstock and added a loose wash of pale pink and apricot for that soft, washy look.

Adding softness to a die cut flower card can be as simple as changing your paper, choosing gentler colors or adding a little texture.
Keep an eye out for more ways to soften your card designs, where I’ll be sharing two completely different floral cards using some of these same ideas!
Happy papercrafting,
