Video : Same But Different Christmas Card Series 2018 – Yupo & Foil!

Back with another set of cards in my Same But Different Christmas Card Series for 2018.  And today it’s all about Yupo and Foiling…  and what could possibly go wrong lol!

I created 3 separate panels of colour and made each into 2 cards. Starting with some bright Flamingo, Turquoise and Pewter Deco Foil.  I kind thought this looked like the aurora borealis and and so put Santa’s Sleigh up in the sky.

My sentiments for the first 3 cards are from the Reverse Confetti Triangle Trees Stamp Set.

I decided to use this negative space tree from Penny Black called Christmas Elegance on my next design.

and I decorated with some simple Silver Pearls.

The next panel was a combination of Limeade, Turquoise and Silver Deco Foil.

Lostinpaper - Altenew - Festive Silhouettes- Reverse Confetti - Triangle Trees (card video) 1

I added the deer from Altenew’s Festive Silhouettes and thought it would be fun to add a red rhinestone nose and, Hello Rudolf!

And do you do with a ‘lost’ deer from Santa’s Sleigh?  Well of course you Frame him.

This gorgeous sentiment is from MFT’s Hand Lettered Holiday Greetings, what’s not to love.

My final panel was created using Altenew’s alcohol refills Morning Frost and Lava Rock with some Gold Deco Foil.  I adore how this one dried, it’s almost like marble!

Lostinpaper - Altenew - Poinsettia - Lawn Fawn - Simply Winter Sentiments (card video) 1

I added a gold embossed BAF: Poinsettia and the sentiments came from Lawn Fawn’s Simply Winter Sentiments.

For my final card I stamped Altenew’s Festive Poinsettia.

Then I added a die cut ‘wishes’ from Altenew’s Holiday Script Words Die and some gold sequins to finish.

  1. These cards are so pretty! I haven’t tried the alcohol ink blending yet but I think that I might have to give it a try. I’ve been working furiously on my Christmas cards this week because I might have to get them in the mail next week. Our Canadian postal service is on a rotating strike right now and there’s no guarantee on mail delivery in the next while. Hopefully it gets resolved soon!

  2. Very pretty and interesting cards, thank you for sharing. I wish in Australia we could stick with Happy Christmas or Happy Hanukkah rather than the holiday greeting, I can just feel all the hate replies heading my way… oh well.

    1. Hi Megan, it’s an interesting concept and, like you say, one that can generate many and varied responses. I do like to mix my sentiments up and sometimes just go for the one that will ‘fit’ because I always forget to incorporate it in the actual card design until the end and end up doing a ‘search’ for one that suits as well as fits the design lol. I typically didn’t like to use the term ‘Happy Holidays’ (but I am building a bridge lol) because I never have holidays at Christmas time because I am a nurse and work shifts so it never felt right. I do love the Wintery scenes and snow for Christmas cards too, but for us ‘warm Christmas’ers’ that’s a whole nother conversation lol. Hope you have the most amazing day and don’t get bombarded with mail, Crafty hugs, Therese

  3. Therese another collection of stunning individual cards full of beauty and inspiration. I so need to get out those alcohol inks again. I love the look of every one of these cards, my favourite by colour of course is the first but I could think of nothing nicer than receiving any of these they are so stunning. You totally rocked this post my friend hugs Aileen

  4. These are beautiful cards! After watching some videos (including Kelly’s), I tried using the foil with alcohol inks as well. Had mixed results. Sometimes not enough stick to use the foil and one that worked really great. I haven’t been able to figure out how to get enough stick. It seems like the thicker the coat of ink the more stick, but I’m not sure if that’s right. And then there’s catching it at the right point in the drying process. But when I’ve caught it right, makes a beautiful background!!! Anyway, I love the colors you mixed and used!! Thanks, Therese!

  5. Great cards. I like how you show the misadventures as well as the outcomes. They all turned out beautifully. A lot of people in Australia do have holidays at Christmas so that sentiment is fine. Bought cards here often have snow etc on them so I think just put whatever you want. I think it’s the only time to get away with snowflakes which are very pretty.

    1. I totally agree, I wouldn’t want to miss out on playing with snowflakes and snow either and yes, I think most people have holidays around that time of year. Thanks so much for your lovely comment and for visiting, hugs Therese

  6. Love them. I am drawn to the full coloured backgrounds in each of the “pairs”.
Reading the other comments I rarely think about my sentiments in that much depth! LOL. I go for the one that fits too 🙂

  7. So gorgeous, Therese … you’ve made each of those AI backgrounds shine so beautifully … and yes, that last one really does look like marble, so elegant! Still to get started on my Christmas cards … the designs are in mind … though how they’ll arrive on paper is yet to be seen … the countdown is on! Hugs, Anita 🙂
