Creative Card Ideas With Stencils 2 Ways + Video!

Today I share 2 cards using Altenew Stencils.  This is part of my Take 2 with Therese video series with Altenew and if you haven’t caught any of these videos before I have a link to my playlist with more inspiration HERE.

Altenew - Mega Greetings - Watercolor Bouquet - Take 2 with Therese (card video) 1 copy

For my first card design I decided to ‘double it up’ and have used both the Wavy Grid and Floral Drape Stencil together to get a unique background design.

Today I used the Mega Greetings to make a bold statement

Altenew - Mega Greetings - Floral Drape - Wavy Grid - Take 2 with Therese (card video) (1) copy

and for this card i used the word ‘sunshine’ from the Exotic Tulips Stamp Set.

For my second card I added colour with the Watercolor 36 Pan Set

and did this directly through the Watercolor Bouquet Stencil.

I also added some of the Altenew Ink Sprays  to spice up the backgrounds.

and I couldn’t help but to add a sub sentiment from the Many Thanks Stamp Set, these older sets from Altenew are still my ‘go to’!

You can see the whole process in the video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube.

I love the versatility of stencils and I hope you were inspired to try a technique or two with your stencils.  Til next time, Hugs,

  1. These are so pretty! I love how you combined the wave and floral stencils on the first one! 🙂

  2. You’ve taken stencils to a whole new level today with these cards. Can’t wait to watch the video!

  3. As one of the Linda’s who follow you, I wanted to tell you how much I love the water color rose card. I love that stencil and did not realize it is a layering stencil. I have decided I need to add it to my Altenew collection. Thanks for the tip on the exclamation points as mine never turn out right.
I have a request for you. Can you explain in a video how you add sequins, drops, etc? I add them but they look out of place!

    1. Hi, one of the Lindas! I will definitely explain sequins and enamel dots in a video but the quick tips are that I add them in odd numbers (usually 3) and I often add them in a visual triangle which is usually thin and long. I also like them on a leaf or tucked beside or under the edge of a flower or sentiment. Hope this makes sense. Thanks so much for your lovely comments and for visiting me here at my blog, Crafty hugs, Therese

      1. Thanks for your response. I think that will help. Looking forward to seeing your tip on a video. I should have also mentioned it was neat hearing all the birds in the background of your video.

  4. Love love love both cards! I have a few stencils that I’m going to play around with to see if I can make them work the way yours did. Thanks for the great idea!

  5. These cards are amazing Therese. Really love what you’ve created today. I’m just going to have a try. Thank you again for your incredible inspiration. It just never stops coming.

  6. So glad someone suggested you do these techniques. First, both your cards were spectacular. I loved learning both techniques and the inspiration to try them. Thank you for the little tips along the way especially letting the human side show as handmade does sometimes have bobbles Haha.

  7. Love these ideas and the cards! Especially the watercolour through the stencil. This would be an easy way to add a little something to a scrapbook page, too.

  8. The floral thanks card is gorgeous!
Therese, I’m trying to purchase 100 lb (pref Neenah solar white) in Australia (NSW) and it’s proving very hard. Can you suggest another similar brand if Neenah not available in Aust? Thanks so much.

    1. Hi Maria, It has been easier to get the Neenah in Australia, but the A4 sheets tend to be the 110lb (and these are what I use to make my own card bases). I did find these in stock here https://www.craftonline.com.au/search?type=product&q=neenah, but they also have packets of cardbases with envelopes which are in the 100lb. You can also find the 110lb here https://www.scrapbookboutique.com.au/products/neenah-110-classic-crest-cardstock-8-5×11-50pkg-solar-white and here https://atcraft.com.au/shop/cardstock/neenah-110lb297gsm-classic-crest-cardstock-8-5×11-pack-of-50pcs/. I hope this is helpful. Thanks so much for your lovely comments and for visiting me here today. Crafty hugs, Therese

  9. Thanks for showing HOW to use the layering stencils! It looked like so much fun to play with…definitely adding it to my wish list.

  10. Such a beautiful floral card, Therese … and a cool, stylish graphic hello … love how the sentiment is over the edge of the card! My apologies not to have been around … we’ve not had internet for a week so now we’re back online, I’m playing catch up! Saving your videos to watch when I have chance to linger over them! Hugs, Anita 🙂

  11. Two beautiful designs, I love them both particularly love the double stencil use, just so eye catching with the slightly cut off “hello”.
