A Unique Way to Die Cut a Pretty Flower – Guest Designer!

Can you think of a ‘different way’ to die cut a flower? Today I am excited to be Guest Designer for The Flower Challenge. And we were asked to ‘Use a Die’… what could I do if I didn’t have a matching die?

I adore this dreamy image from Altenew’s Watercolor Coloring Book. And I had such fun colouring it with the Woodless Watercolor Pencils when I was away camping last month.

Obviously I didn’t have a coordinating die, so I started to think about what I could do…..

Initially I was going to die cut it as an oval centrepiece. But then I had a lightbulb moment and I decided to use the Essential Hexagons.

I can’t wait to see how you are inspired to ‘Use a Die’ with some flowers. Show off your talent and head to The Flower Challenge to share your creations. Crafty hugs,

  1. Absolutely brilliant, Therese!! I could hardly wait for this to go live! Your use of a geometric die, instead of a coordinating one, just blows me away! Your water coloring of that color book page is gorgeous to start with! Loving the aqua ‘greenery’ and our fave pink/orange color combo!
Thanks, so very much, for being our guest this month, my friend! Such a wonderful surprise!

  2. Wow Therese what a great idea to use the hexagon dies to make your card! So inspirational as always with your beautiful cards. Thank you so much for being our Guest Designer again this month. I think you know we just love having you as our GD over at ‘The Flower Challenge’ 😉 Viv DT xx

  3. My husband and I vacationed on a houseboat for a week, and I water colored during my “alone time”, but I did not get the results you did. Your coloring is AMAZING! So much detail– how could you bear to cut that image? Maybe I should cut my projects…..into confetti and call it a puzzle! Ooooh! that would be a good die to use for this challenge!

  4. what a fantastic idea, Therese – keep seeing all these wonderful cards made with the Altenew coloring book – think maybe I really “need” it!

    1. It’s a great little book, I especially like it to ‘travel’ with as I usually don’t take anything but now I can grab this and my watercolour pencils and brush and I have all I need!

  5. This card is one of many reasons I follow you Therese. Your out of the box designs inspire me soo much and this one is absolutely brilliant! Gorgeous wastercoloring and using the hexagon pattern took nothing away from it. Love this to pieces!

  6. Don’t you just LOVE those Light Bulb Moments, Theresa?!? Die Cutting your beautiful watercolored flower with your Essential Hexagon Die was the perfect solution to not having a coordinating flower die. TFS and always inspiring us. Love and Hugs…Nancy

  7. Amazing and uniquely creative design Therese. LOVE your gorgeous watercoloured poppy. Die-cutting it with hexagons was truly inspiring. LOVE the results! Thanks for being our Guest Designer at The Flower Challenge this month!

  8. I’ve always admired your card making techniques Therese and of course your coloring is just beyond beautiful. The extra touch of hexagon die cutting on this card just adds cherry on top. ❤️❤️

  9. Oh my goodness–it took me a while to realize how you die cut your watercolored flower! This is brilliant… and gutsy, too! Love it!

      1. “Gutsy” is an admirable term! I don’t know if I could cut into a watercolored bloom like you did. Nope, probably not! 😉

      2. Thanks so much Donna, maybe I did just close my eyes a little with the first die cut lol. ps We use the word ‘gutsy’ the same way here too. Hugs Tx

  10. This is absolutely stunning in many ways, Therese! The watercoloring with its blend of colors is fantastic and the cutting of the image into hexagons is brilliant. I’m saving this for inspiration. So glad to have you designing with us this month.

  11. You are a brave artist to cut that beautifully colored flower into hexagons, Therese! The result is breathtaking!!! Thank you so much for being our guest this month! And thanks for your lovely comment on my blog 🙂 !

  12. ‘Unique’ is an understatement, Therese! Your flowers are absolutely gorgeous and I love your die cutting on this card…you have really out-done yourself with this beauty, my friend!!! xx

  13. There’s, I love this card so very much! Just the coloring alone is gorgeous, but adding the hexagon die cut is wonderful.
No one has asked, so maybe I’m being dense, but, did you just cut the floral over and over with one hexagon die?

    1. Hi Susan, thanks so much for your lovely visit here today, to answer your question. Yes I did just cut the panel over and over with a hexagon die, the first cut was the hardest lol. Hope you have a great and crafty day, hugs Tx

  14. What a piece of art, Therese! Spotted this at the Flower Challenge and had to pop over. Just love your watercolored flower (I have yet to dip into that coloring book which I ordered months ago…) but die cutting it with the hexagons? Brilliant!!
