5 Easy TIPS for Alcohol MARKER Shading + Video!

Do you struggle with alcohol marker shading? Today I share 5 easy tips that I use nearly every time I colour!

You can see my video here or Watch it in HD at YouTube.

These simple techniques can be used with any alcohol markers that you have! Here they are in a nutshell, but you can watch them in action in the video that I have shared here.

  • Lay down a Base Colour
  • Add a Second Layer of Colour
  • Stretch your Colours
  • Add a Different Shadow Colour
  • Add Highlights with a Blender Pen
  • BONUS Tip!

These flowers are from a gorgeous Project Kit from Altenew which is called Garden Rose, but you can use whatever floral images you have to practice these tips!

I was struggling with mojo this week, it was a ‘no mojo’ week… so clean and simple won.

…including the sentiment which is a fabulous font from the Garden Rose Stamp Set.

I hope you have been inspired to colour with your alcohol markers. If so, don’t forget to share with me, I’d love to see what you are making! Crafty Hugs,

  1. Your card says it all Therese…beautiful ❤️ Absolutely beautiful ❤️❤️❤️

  2. Thanks for those very timely tips, Therese. I also have just picked up my markers after a long break of using other mediums, and was feeling very rusty using them. It was very encouraging to hear you say that you were having the same feeling – although you would never guess from the beautiful results you achieved. Thanks for all the inspiration

  3. Beautiful coloring on this gorgeous card. I don’t have alcohol markers but I watched this just to see you work!

  4. Lovely..I am hoping Altenew comes out with a stamp, die, stencil, and embossing folder where the embossing folder is the exact same design and can be used to emboss the individual flower(s) and leaves of the stamp, die, and stencils set…(not just a separate design from the stamp, die and stencils).

  5. Thank you, Therese! It’s been a while since I’ve done any coloring. So, after watching your video, I feel inspired again. I appreciate you sharing your tips. I can’t wait for my Kit to arrive.

  6. Thanks so much for all those tips Therese. I really struggle with alcohol markers. I have all the Altenew markers and they are gathering dust in the cupboard. Eek. After watching your video I’m off to give the tips a try. Thank you so much. Your colouring is gorgeous.

  7. The roses are so, so pretty! Thank you for the coloring tips. I love my Artist Markers it still am learning to color with them.

  8. I loved all your tips on coloring with artist markers, Therese. Heaven knows I can use all the help I can get. Your roses are beautiful with all the shading and highlights.

  9. I think I have all the Altenew marker sets, and I have a difficult time finding the right colors due to the odd numbering system, so I have switched to the Nuvo Tri-blends– so much easier!
I am trying all your tips on color shading and they really help me get better results. Patience, however, is not in my nature!

  10. Yes, I struggle with alcohol markers. Thanks so much for the tips. Your card is beautiful (you certainly chose the right sentiment!).
