2 EASY Ideas to Add HOT FOIL to Cards + Video!

Do you love the look of foil on your cards? Today I share 2 FUN ways to add hot foil to your card designs. And I have a BONUS card to share!

But first… Did you know that this video is part of my Take 2 With Therese series of videos that I create for Altenew? You can check out the full playlist right HERE for more inspiration.

Today’s cards feature the Gilded Rose Bundle. And the best thing is that the Layering Stencil can be used WITHOUT the Hot Foil Plate. So to change it up, you could easily add a die cut silver cardstock Hello instead!

For my first technique I used heat resistant acetate.

I love the see-through look of the Gilded Rose over the blended card base.

This card has a simple sentiment from the Bergenia Builder Stamp Set.

My second technique is a fun one. I added Hot Foil directy to a Waterbrush Hello Die cut.

I also used the Apothecary Stamp Set to add a sub sentiment.

And for my BONUS card, I used the ‘waste’ foil to create a panel.

And the Hello and Hugs Bundle for a simple sentiment.

  1. Love that Aurora foil with this huge rose! Such a beautiful focal image!
Sometimes after I cut this particular kind of “transparent” foil, I cannot tell which side is “up” and I end up foiling my hot foil plate instead of the paper! Besides cursing at myself 🙂 do you have any tips on remembering which side to lay onto the foil plate? Some kind of “tick mark”? Thanks!

    1. I agree June, it can be difficult to tell which is the correct side of the foil and I think that a ‘tick’ mark is something that I would definitely do (using a permanent marker). What a great idea! Otherwise a ‘test’ piece could work too.

  2. Whoa, Therese, these are so gorgeous. I love, love, love big flowers like that. Wow! What incredibly beautiful cards and foiling.

  3. Wow Therese
These are all stunning. The solid hot foil plate is such a game changer.
Thanks for reminding me about foiling diecut sentiments!
    Cheers
    Lisa
