A sketch is a powerful thing! Did you know that stretching your sketch also helps to stretch your supplies!
Welcome to my Same But Different Christmas Card Series 2022! Today I have a wonderful share with you. I am joining Michelle Lupton from Handmade By Michelle with her CASE me a Christmas Card 2022. I decided to CASE her wonderful card HERE but, couldn’t stop there…
I created a sketch of her card and then made a total of 5 cards! Did you know that you can ‘stretch a sketch’?

————-

Idea #1 – Original Sketch
My first card is very true to the sketch. I used the cute snowman image from the Cozy Winter Stamp Set.

And added a bold sentiment from Believe. Then I did some simple masking and blended a panel.
BONUS TIP: You could create a similar look to Michelle’s card by blending on the opposite side of the panel instead just as she did.

Idea #2 – Add Dimension
I have used the same basic sketch but added simple dimension by die cutting and popping up the images using foam tape.

I used the Mountain Holiday Set with a sentiment from Bright & Light.

Idea #3 – Flip the Sketch!
I kept the card portrait style but chose images that would fit vertically instead!

Can you see the possibilites yet?
For this card I used Penny Black stamps from Christmas Cycling and Christmas Moments.

Idea #4 – Change it Up
This card could be pushing the friendship a little. But I thought it would be good to show you just how far this sketch can ‘stretch’!

I kept the same vertical orientation but this Jingle Bells image is very different to the original cute style.
PRO TIP: If you want to keep more true to the sketch you could draw 2 lines, one down each side of the image to create the panel… you could even mask and blend a panel similar to the original design.

Idea #5 – Landscape & More
Yes, I’ve flipped the sketch and this time I’ve created a landscape card. But, I’ve also swapped out the ‘cute’ style again for this Christmas Poinsettia.

And, I have added dimension to the card base allowing the sentiment from Joyful Holiday Wishes to be in the negative space.

You can see how I created these cards in my video here or Watch it in HD on YouTube.
Don’t forget to check out how Michelle was inspired by one of my cards right HERE.
I hope you are inspired to try this Sketch or to CASE a Card? And I’d love you to let me know which card is your favourite!

These are brilliant! So clever! Thanks so much for joining me for Case me a Christmas card again ❤️
Thank you for asking me, my friend, It is always such fun CASE’ing your beautiful designs!
An amazing set of cards, way to stretch that sketch!
Thank you Lisa x
Gorgeous cards. You know, I never use sketches, perhaps I should give them a try. I love the snowmen, they’re so sweet also the poinsettia, so elegant❤️
Sketches were always scary for me, but once I started using them I realised how useful they can be! Thanks, so much Dee!
You have given this CASEing business your all, Therese! and then some! Amazing, wonderful, beautiful and fun cards!
=]
I had such a fun time with this sketch, I could have made a dozen cards lol.
Good to see some older stamps getting a workout. Great variety of interpretations here.
Yes, I have enjoyed playing with these stamps, it’s been a little while since I’ve had a chance to just ‘play’ and I thoroughly enjoyed it! Thank you Christine x
5 fabulous cards. Great CASe and stretching the sketch!
I need a little more ‘stretching’ here lol.
You’re not alone 😂
So elegant and classy cards ! I love them!
So happy that you like them! Thank you x
Yay! I love it when you do the 5 cards in one video. I love some of these layouts and might give them a try with some of my existing stamps. You make everything look so fresh and effortless.
I’m so happy you enjoyed them, they were such fun to do! Hope you have fun with the sketch!
What an awesome video Therese. I, too, have always been a bit scared of sketches but am learning to ” stretch the sketch” Totally in love with the grey baubles. The soft blue on it is inspiring.
Isn’t it a great way to create…. start with the design then choose the images and colours. I don’t know why it took me so long to work it out, maybe our brains are wired similarly lol.
I love the way you turned the sketch to get different looks with the same colors, Therese. Such great ideas and tips in your video. I think the poinsettia is my favorite but all the cards are wonderfully creative.
Thank you so much Bobby, you are so sweet x
I couldn’t pick a favorite if I tried, Therese! These are all amazing and I love the colors!
So glad to hear that you like them Lisa x
Really oretty cards. Love the clean and simple designs. I think I like the poinsettia card the best. I have used a sketch a few times, but I tend to just make a design as I go along.
I usually design as I go, but I found the sketch made it so much quicker (I’m a slow crafter lol).
I hope your back is better soon. Rest and recover, we’ll still be here.
Thanks so much Christine!
Therese
The sketch inspired cards are so lovely. I wait with anticipation for your Christmas card series.
Hoping your back is on the mend.
I’m a standing crafter and I’m gradually getting used to my wheel chair.
Cheers
Lisa
It feels weird that to stand or sit crafting can make it ‘feel’ so different. Good luck with your conversion to wheelchair crafting my friend, I know you will be amazing x
Rest up, you deserve it. I hope your back is feeling better soon.
Thanks so much Deb x
