Things are HOTTING Up: Taking Line Art One Step Further!

Do you like ‘Line Art’ on cards? Today, I’m going to take it one little step further….

And, don’t forget to check out my BONUS idea and technique (scroll down to see it)!

I have been ‘Hot Foiling‘ all the things recently and I do have to say that the Spellbinders plates work like a dream. Once I had my sandwich sorted, these panels came together in no time at all.

Idea #1 – Line Art

I love the clean and simple look of ‘line art’ but hello, take it another step further and you have ‘Hot Foiled’ line art. These Hexi-Gem Blooms are so sweet.

Simple and stylish. Imagine a gift card set made with the same design in multiple colours… or even using the same layout but different images!

BONUS IDEA: No Hot Foil machine, no worries! You can recreate a similar look using a simple stamped line art image… or if you want the shine, why not try a little heat embossing!

Idea #2 – No Waste

You already knew I was going to do a ‘two-for’ lol. I used the negative image (aka leftover foil) onto some cardstock and cut it into a panel.

I also added a sprinkling of Fashion Oyster pearls to these designs, but to keep it post friendly you could miss this step.

BONUS Idea – Alcohol Markers!

Did you know that you can use alcohol markers with hot foil? It’s not something that I regularly do, but I chose light colours and didn’t ‘overshade’. And it seemed to work a treat!

I added coordinating die cut sentiments to all of today’s cards (with and without the fish tail ends).

Are you inspired to create some ‘two-for’ die cut designs?

And let me know, are you like me… if you don’t use your left-overs straight away, it wouldn’t happen😉? I’m looking forward to seeing you here again real soon, Crafty hugs,

  1. Those pastel foils just came to live with me, Therese! Are we shopping together, too?? LOve your gorgeous cards – I’d be more than satisfied with this ‘letterpress’ look without the newest machine, how about you?
    Fabulous play time, my friend!
    =]

    1. I am thinking the same thing…. but then the lure is always there and something may just tip me, but like the Hot Foil it could take a year or so lol.

  2. Your cards are beautiful. Love the pastel foil.
I did the Spellbinders Glimmer class on Saturday and really enjoyed working with the plates you’ve used. I think I’ve foiled every day since. It’s quite addictive. Now I have a stack of images I need to make up into cards.
The one thing I didn’t think to do is leave a good border around the image (trimmed back to avoid over foiling) as you did. I did use the negative foiling, but not for a full card front. Next project I think!
Thanks again for the inspiration ❤️

    1. I agree, it’s totally addictive lol. Yes, I’ve started using larger pieces of cardstock as it gives me more options and it seems to be working AND if it overfoils then I can simply cut it off anyway. (or if it’s crooked I can straighten it with a simple rectangle die cut lol).

  3. It is nice to have inspiration for using different foil colours other than gold. Thanks. Lovely cards!
