Altenew - Dainty Flower Garden - Artists Watercolors - BetterPress (card video) (7) copy

One thing I have noticed about the BetterPress system is how EASY it is to use. I am still testing the products and enjoying the results. Today it was time to test it with watercolours, I stamped 2 panels using the Dainty Flower Garden Press Plates with the BetterPress Black Ink.

Idea #1 – Background Wash

I used the Altenew Artists’ Watercolors and mixed a grey wash for the background. The images were pressed onto a Porcelain Cotton Card Panel and I found that the watercolour moved beautifully and by keeping a ‘wet’ edge and constantly moving the paint I didn’t have any issues with pilling of the cardstock or having sharp edges/ lines. Note: If you are mixing your own colour make sure to mix more than you need as it will be difficult to get exactly the same colour mixed a second time.

I also thought I would try and see how this paper held up to some ‘watercolour splatters’ and they worked a treat! I then cut the panel down and popped it up on a Dark Gray background.

PRO TIP: When watercolouring make sure to use an ink that will not bleed when water is added. The BetterPress Black ink is similar to Archival Ink and therfore is perfect for this technique.

Idea #2 – Fine Watercoloring

This time I thought it would be fun to see how the cardstock held up to a ‘few layers’ of watercolouring. I added about 4 layers of colours allowing the image to dry between the layers and I was able to get some lovely bold layers of colour as well as some depth with shading. Gotta say, I’m feeling pretty happy right now!

Both cards were very simple and fun to create.
