Have you ever tried watercolouring? Today I share some watercolouring techniques that you will be to recreate with the products that you have…
You may or may not have noticed that I have been on a ‘watercolouring kick’ lately and there may also be one or two Poinsietta’s flying about my channel as well. Today I am combining both of my current favourite loves and sharing some very EASY watercolouring techniques using products that you probably already have on hand.
But first, I wanted to let you know that this is part of my Take 2 Series with Altenew and I’m so excited that you are joining me for another video today. Let’s begin with a peek at today’s cards…

You can see my video here or watch it HD at YouTube.
ANYONE can watercolour on cards and I have 3 EASY ways to help you do just that! And, did you know that you can watercolor with products that you may already have on hand? Dye Inks are waterbased and that makes them the perfect way to practice this medium to see if it’s something you enjoy before you invest. Today I am sharing three very simple techniques to try using the Linear Life: Poinsettias set, so let’s get started.
Idea #1 – Stamping!
Did you know that you can watercolor with a ‘stamp’? Simply reverse the stamp so that you can apply ink to the back of the stamp and then spritz it with a fine mist of water and then stamp as you normally would.

I used the Rose Petal Fresh Dye Inks for these Poinsettias and once the panel was dry I was able to stamp the images on top. Note that they will not fit perfectly as the original image was reversed but I think this helps give the design that loose watercolor look.
PRO TIP: Want to ‘mix’ your watercolors? Simply restamp the image with another spritzed darker color on top before it dries.

I added a simple Bold Alphabet Die sentiment and a sub sentiment from the Modern Poinsettia Stamp Set.

Idea #2 – Stencil
This set has a coordinating Simple Coloring Stencil and this gave me the opportunity to share that you can actually add watercolour through a stencil. If you are not confident to color, this is a great way to ‘cheat’ lol.

Idea #3 – Watercolour
And finally, this is the most obvious way to watercolor, simply to use it as you would any watercolor medium. How? Smoosh the ink pad to a palette or a non-porous surface, use a watercolor brush loaded with some water, add this to the dye ink and then pick it up as you normally would. And, it doesn’t have to be fancy, I kept this coloring very loose and it was so easy, literally anyone could do this.
PRO TIP: For darker more intense color add less water, but to get a lighter variant simply dilute the Fresh Dye Ink with more water. Also note, that watercolors will dry slightly lighter.

I decided to add a Navy cardstock Perfect Poinsettias 3D embossed background. As well as some Satin White Sequins to decorate the bouquet.

Let me know in the comments below which card is your fave today and if you think you might try some watercolouring on your next card design? You know you want to lol. Crafty hugs,
