Bring on the challenge my friends! A great way to be inspired is by setting a colour challenge, and today’s combination of colours are ORANGE & RED.
My friend Michele and I set ourselves this little colour challenge and she knocked it out of the ball park, you can see her cards right HERE, don’t forget to tell her that I said ‘Hi’!
Technique #1 – Focal Point
A fantastic way to add a colour combination to a card is to create a ‘focal point’. I chose to add some layered die cut flowers, but you could easily add critters or even a die cut geometric pattern.

BONUS IDEA: I layered die cut coloured cardstock to create these blooms but you could easily substitute a design paper or even blend your own cardstock to suit.

Let’s talk about NEUTRALS.
These can be used in combination with the colours. Traditionally, neutrals are considered shades without colour, which would include, black, white, ivory, kraft, browns, and greys… but I would take it a step further and say that metallics and greens could also be included (because sometimes, we just want leaves even if they are golden).

Technique #2 – Backgrounds
Backgrounds are such fun to create, so why not use challenge colours to do this? Typically, colour combinations are going to coordinate well together so it makes sense to use them to your advantage.
I made a quick and easy wide striped background by cutting 1″ strips with a paper trimmer and adhering them to a panel.

I could have coloured the flower bouquet in a combination of the colours too, but instead, I decided to keep the image as ‘line art’ for a more modern look.

PRO TIP: Cutting paper strips is a great way to use scrap pieces of cardstock (and this can also be done using design paper too)!

Nothing makes my heart happier than a FUN colour combination and this is one that I was excited to share. My usual ‘go-to’ fave combo is bright orange and bright pink, do you have a favourite colour combination, I’d love to know, maybe we can use it next time?
Are you going to join us in this challenge? If you do, don’t forget to share it with us on Social Media. You can find me @lostinpaper and Michele is @mfergu01 and don’t forget to follow us so we can follow you back😄!
