#3DEMBOSSINGFOLDERS
Would you like to take your 3D Embossing Folders to the Next Level? With this easy technique you can create unique dramatic card designs real quick!
I was inspired by Erum and you can see her wonderful video right HERE. But, there are many different versions of this technique and I was also intrigued, by this video HERE created by Sandi.
My Quick Tips!
- Use 3D Embossing Folders as regular folders will not give enough depth for the dramatic results.
- Any cardstock can be used, today I used both 80lb and Bristol smooth.
- Try as many colours as you like, this technique looks amazing with just one colour or many.
- The first level of ink blending can easily be changed up to a watercoloured or gouache background (either of these options would require watercolour cardstock).
- Make sure the insert the cardstock into the folder so that the inked side will be debossed (you can always test a small piece of cardstock if you are not sure).
- After embossing is where the magic happens, use a ‘flat’ foam blending tool to ensure that the ink does not settle too much into the debossed images.
- Use black ink to blend the background (I used a water based dye ink – but you can try what you have), and to change it up why not try some darker ink colours in different tones.
- OR try the Blackout embossing technique in which you swipe the actual ink pad over the design (I have 2 examples with this technique today).
- There really is no ‘wrong’ way to do this technique, so why not give it a try!
Today I have 4 Cards to kick off your inspiration, starting with…
Card #1 – Love You Friend
Instead of having a ‘solid’ black background here I mixed it up a little and added some dark blues instead. I love the ‘lighter’ look that it gives, but there is still a ton of drama.
I kept the designs very clean and simple today as I wanted to keep the embossed images as the main focus of the cards.
Card #2 – Sympathy
This was the first time I had tried the ‘Blackout Embossing’ technique and it was scary but fun! I used Bristol Smooth for the panel knowing that there was going to be a LOT of ink applied to it.
And I am totally impressed at how different these 3D embossing folders look using this technique (it’s like having new supplies)!
Card #3 – Way to Go!
This is my BONUS design! I really wanted to see how ‘all of this ink’ would work using a piece of 80lb cardstock… and I’m impressed! Of course, there was warping, but I added a strong tape adhesive to the panel before attaching it to a 110lb card base.
I can see why Erum called it the ‘neon’ technique, becuase these are the same colours that I used on the first card and they really do look ‘neon’ here.
Card #4 – Congrats
This panel was created similarly to the first card. But, I wanted to change it up and add aome light heat embossing in gold. I didn’t like my chances as the ink was still wet, but I love the results.
BONUS IDEA: I wish I had of seen it at the time, but there was a suggestion in the Live video to use some Lunar paste… what a fabulous idea and definitely something I will try next time!
All together now…
