Did you know that you can change up designs with Ink Blending techniques? Today, even though I used the same inks, the cards I created are as different as DAY and NIGHT!
But first, I wanted to let you know that this post contains a ton of affiliate links (at no extra cost to you – just in case you decide to go shopping 😉) and that it is part of a Hop celebrating a new release from Altenew and you can find all of the hop details in the link list below!

#INKBLENDING
Do you love trying out new techniques to get different looks? You may already know that I certainly do. Today I used the same ink colours, and check out the results, these cards look SOOOO different!

Technique #1 – Ink Blending on Die Cuts
Blending ink directly onto die cut images is very easy to do. And the best thing is that you can use any colours of ink that you have in your stash. But, have you ever tried mixing colours together on blended die cuts? Today my flowers have 3 different colours on the petals, and I love that blending allows us to add these variations with different colour combinations.

Remember that ink will dry slightly lighter, and that areas which may look ‘spotchy’ can even out as the dye ink sinks in. You can use any style of ink that you have, I prefer dye based inks, but pigment inks will also blend beautifully!
PRO TIP: Not sure if the colours you have chosen will blend well together? Either check with a colour wheel or simply just use a scrap piece of paper to practice on before you commit!

QUESTION? Is there such a thing as TOO MANY flowers? I don’t think so 😉!

Technique #2 – Blackout Embossing Technique
Want a bold dramatic card design, that is easy to do? Then go no further than this fun Blackout Embossing Technique.
HOW: Either ink blend a piece of white cardstock before or after embossing it with a 3D Embossing Folder (note: add ink to the debossed side). Then use an ink blending tool (a flat surfaced foam tool works best) or simply lightly swipe a black ink pad over the raised areas of the debossed side of the piece of cardstock.
***Check out my Live VIDEO HERE where I played with some Blackout techniques!

PRO TIP: You can use any combination of ink colours, or use no colour at all for a dramatic black and white look.

I added a little splatter of white, but gold would have looked great too! As well as a simple popped up sentiment and some Gem Sparkles.

I like your very different techniques you show. Thanks for the explanations.
Gorgeous cards as always, Therese! I haven’t had great results with the blackout technique, but I’m going to give it another try using a flat blending tool (before I was using the ink pad directly onto the paper).
Good luck! Hope you have fun

Your cards are so beautiful!
Beautiful cards! I enjoy trying out new techniques, I’ve recently done both of them! But I admit the blackout one terrified me at first, after coloring the debossed side, but it turned out great!
Stunning contrast between the two cards, thanks for sharing your process video!
Well now, I never thought of doing the blackout technique on the back of an embossing folder without coloring first – black and white! of course! Duh moment here! So glad Altenew got your link fixed….I tried the first day and it didn’t work so I let them know!
Hmmm, I left a comment but it disappeared on me. Love the idea of doing the blackout technique over just a white debossed image. Brilliant!
