3 Ways to Make Quick & EASY Floral Cards!
If you have been here before then you know that floral images are one of my favourites to create with. But, cardmaking with flowers, doesn’t have be boring or complicated. Today, I have 3 simple ways to make your supplies shine, the EASY way!
Technique #1 – Watercolor Background
It really doesn’t get any easier than this. I used one of my favourite colour combinations and created a wash of watercolour on a piece of watercolour paper. Remember, that these colours will dry lighter so make it ‘brighter’ than you think you need… or, you can come back in with another layer of paint once it is dry.
Watercolour paper is thicker than regular cardstock so you may need to run it through your die cutting machine twice or add a thin shim to make sure that it die cuts perfectly.

To add a little dimension I die cut the flowers twice and adhered them together before adding them to the card, but if you want less bulk, then you can miss this step. And I decided that a bold sentiment was needed here, and that also found some dimension

This Cover Die is perfect for this technique. In fact the longest time spent making this card was waiting for the ‘paint to dry’ 🤣.

Technique #2 – Design Paper
Yes, you have probably heard me say it before, but it’s time to use that Design Paper! Because, you know what? Once you do, you are allowed to buy more (Well, that’s my theory anyway 😉). Design paper makes die cut layered flowers come together VERY quickly.
And, to speed things up, I often choose papers from the same paper pad, as typically they are made to co-ordinate together.

A quick and easy way to add a subtle background, use a Cover Die for a tone on tone highlight, or a 3D embossing folder would work perfectly here too.

BONUS TIP: For a simple bouquet like this, use an odd number of blooms. For example, here I used 3 flowers, and added a combination of leaves and rhinestones.

Technique #3 – Line Art
Don’t have time to colour a bouquet, OR you are not a confident colourist? Have you ever thought about using line art in your designs? This bouquet is beautiful, even though it is not coloured in.
But, what takes this design to the next level, is adding a focal point, such as this bright bird. Though, you could also add a butterly or even just one coloured flower instead!

And, the best thing is, that this set comes with a co-ordinating stencil, so if you prefer to add colour with ‘ink blending’ this is a great option.

Again, you may notice I added dimension, obviously it would be quicker and easier not to add dimension… but I’m addicted, gotta say.

I’d LOVE to know if you are inspired to try any of these techniques and if YOU have a favourite card today? Let me know in the comments below and share with me on Social Media, it would be fantastic to see what you create!

Wow! Beautiful designs- love the bird! You’ve inspired me to use my patterned paper! The fonts on those sentiments are gorgeous!
Therese, three stunning creations – of course you KNOW you had me at pink and orange! In fact, I was just reaching for those inks when this popped into my inbox!
LOve that gorgeous bird! Looks like I have a few things to add to my wish list!

Once again, some beautiful ideas Therese, and all so different. What a lovely collection
All the cards are wonderful, but I particularly like the contrast the bird provides.
and three fabulous cards
Beautiful cards!
Another feast for the eyes, Therese! They’re all fabulous, but it’s that pretty little bird that has my heart singing today!
Absolutely gorgeous. Love these cards Thereseâ¤ï¸
Ooooo the watercolor flower one is gorgeous! They are all wonderful and creative!
Hi, Therese! What beautiful cards, my friend. Fantastic colors, too. ðŸ˜
Beautiful cards with these new products! I especially love the watercolored cover die and the awesome color combo you used for it!
Wonderful cards Therese! Love the clever ideas especially the DP for the pretty floral cover die!!!
All three cards are gorgeous examples of quick and easy cards. I recently shared a ‘line art’ card on instagram (for the Altenew Challenge), which is fairly similar to yours, only my colorful bird was die-cut from watercolored panels and layered. Thank you so very much for sharing, dear Therese, I frequently need reminding to use my patterned paper — challenge accepted. With appreciation and best wishes, Caro
I love all the different ways you added color!!! Beautiful cards.
All 3 of these cards are gorgeous with just splashes of color!
Gorgeous cards! Love the bird with the black and white stamping on the background. It really pops!
Beautiful cards! Reinforces how white backgrounds can really add depth to the cards.
