Do you use a stamp positioner? …and can you guess how many I have?
It took me a LONG time to jump on the stamp positioner bandwagon. And I can’t remember why exactly, I think maybe it was more of a cost thing, because I know that these tools are an investment and I didn’t want everyone to feel like they couldn’t create without one, because, you definitely can! But, if you have the opportunity to be able to get one, then they can be a game changer. Especially, if you have any sort of shoulder injury, tremor or even arthritis, or if you just want to be able to stamp confidently every time.
How many do I have? Is it a bad thing? I have more than one stamp positioner… in fact, I have a total of 5 (don’t judge me), but I use them ALL and often for different techniques and sometimes just because I like to ‘restamp’ an image after I have coloured it, then I can use multiple positioners at a time (yes, it’s a thing), so that I can restamp, but still keep creating without having to worry about realigning a stamp. And why are we here today?

The Altenew Stampwheel 2.0
When the Original Altenew Stampwheel was released the card world was a buzz! It’s design and unique features set it apart from all of the other stamp positioning tools that were available at that time. My personal favourite feature was that it had the ‘Sticky Grid Mat’… and then came the ‘Ultra Sticky’ version and it got even better. The other wonderful feature that I am a huge fan of, is that the Flip Plate can be rotated or turned, which is perfect for layered stamping or creating perfect patterns.
My biggest gripe, was that I couldn’t fit a ‘whole’ opened A2 card base on the Grid mat, even if it was hanging out the side (the plate would squash the cardstock). I can obviously work my way around this by using a panel of cardstock instead and attach it to the front of the A2 card base, but sometimes I just want to work directly on the card base (like I did in today’s card design).
So you want to know,
#WHAT’SNEW?
- It’s BIGGER!
- Base (Stage) Original: 9″ X 9″ – Stampwheel 2.0: 10 1/2″ X 10 1/2″
- Flip Plate Original: 11″ X 11″ – Stampwheel 2.0: 13″ X 13″
- Sticky Grid Mat Original: 7 1/2″” X 7 1/2″” – Stampwheel 2.0: 9″ X 9″
- Expanded workspace – for larger stamps/easier to use stencils/stamp direct on card base
- Improved stablility for precision stamping
- Removable side frame – for larger projects such as large cards/scrapbooking/home decor
- Precision numbered scale on each side
- Comes with the ‘Ultra’ sticky version of the Grid Mat (my fave)
- Includes the Radial Plate which can be used to create patterns or wreaths
- The Flip Plate has a hole on one edge which is perfect to use as a reference point or to hang it up.
And of Course I Made a Card!
My first impressions? I really enjoyed the expanded workspace, it meant that I could stamp this HUGE Billowing Peonies stamp directly onto an A2 card front, exactly where I wanted. I was also able to remove the side frame to help me here too!

This stamp set also includes a set of 12 stencils and they are also the larger size. So it was nice to see that I was still able to come in and use these without moving my card base out of the stage. This meant that, if I wanted, I could restamp the image after, knowing it hadn’t shifted.

Please Note: Initially I found the Flip Plate was quite a tight fit into the grooves of the base, but as I am using it more, it is becoming much easier to use. It’s good for accurate stamping, but I can’t remember having the same issue with my original Stampwheel. And, I have sent this feedback to Altenew.

My verdict? The changes are exactly what I needed, thank you Altenew for listening to our feedback. Although, I know that the larger footprint may be a problem for some, if you have a smaller craft space. But, I have started storing my stamp positioning tools, score boards and Grid Mats vertically, in this adjustable pan organizer (there are many options/sizes available), which has been working well for me.

I have three MISTI’s (original, a mini, and then I just bought a newer one, just because) & I love them! Stampwheel is too big and clunky….can’t imagine buying one…but then why would I? However, your card is seriously lovely! Wish I could had the color sense you do1
Yes, I think that you have the world at your fingertips Marilyn, and 3 MISTI’s should get you out of any papercrafting predicaments lol.
What a gorgeous card, Therese! I’m off to see it come to life!
=]
Yay! See you there!
Beautiful card!!!
Thank you Lisa x
Beautiful card and you made it look so easy!
Thank you Christine!
I LOVE your flower colors!
Layered stencils are a game changer for me because I failed “Coloring 101” in kindergarten. I also “failed” Home Economics in high school, but that’s another story 🙂
I “have” to get this Mega-Stamp!
oooh, now I need to know the Home Economics story lol. And a BIG Yes to stencil colouring, it’s quick and it looks amazing!
Good morning Therese
I’ve been waiting to hear your verdict on the bigger stamp wheel.
Yes I’ve a few postioners and I use them all for different reasons.
I waited a while to get Altenews one and I love it.
But I felt a little limited be it’s size. Newer larger stamp and stencil sets that are now released can be a problem.
Off to watch your video and to hear what you’ve got to say.
Never apologize for how busy your life can be. I’m grateful for all that you share.
The card today is spectacular.
Yes, they really have put a LOT of thought into the features of the new stamp wheel… I was wondering if they were able to change the smaller version to have a lift out side as well, that would help a lot. Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. I’m off to work, so more crafting for me today (insert sad face here) x
I have several stamp positioners as have most stampers I am sure and yes use them for different reasons but do like the look of this Altenew one and will have to do some further research.Your card was amazing and nearly perfect in every way….LOL…shame about the smudge!Just joking I looked very closely and couldn’t see a thing but you did say look and if anything was seen you would the card out. Those stencils are a real game changer as well. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you so very much! I agree with you about the stencils, they have been a game changer!! Hope you have the most fabulous and crafty day, Hugs Therese
Therese your cards are always so lovely and beautiful. I thank you for telling me what is so great about the stampwheel 2.0. I like the idea of being able to use a full sheel of card stock.
There are certainly some great new features, so glad you enjoyed the video!
You not only made a card, you made a gorgeous card!! Thanks for the video too 😉
Yay! So glad you like it Lisa!
Therese – your card is absolutely BEAUTIFUL (as usual)! I appreciate your video & hearing your comments about the Stampwheel 2.0. I’ve been thinking about getting one since their first model was introduced, but I have two Misti tools, so just wasn’t sure if I really needed another expensive stamping tool. It does have features that I really like, and I’m doing the ‘HOP’ for fun & also to help make a decision. After all, it would make a great Christmas gift! 🙂 🎄 Happy Holidays!
I hear you, it’s hard not to have to have it all lol. I feel so lucky to have received this at part of the DT. Now I have a total of 5 stamp positioners, 3 Mistis and 2 Stampwheels, and I’ll often have 4 of them loaded at once lol. My friend finds that hard to believe, but I think it’s because I make multiple different cards at the same time for my videos… You have a great tool in the MISTI’s Cheri, they are fabulous!
