One of my ‘go-to’ techniques for masculine cards is to keep them CAS (clean & simple). I also like to use bright or neutral colours, depending on my mood and a little bit of humour never goes astray.

Idea #1 – Central Image
Keep it simple, choose and image and stamp it centrally on the front of the card, or on a panel to add to the card front, after colouring.
Speed it Up?
- Use a stamp positioner
- Use a sentiment from the same stamp set.
- Stamp both the image and sentiment at the same time
- Simple colouring with minimal shading
- If you know your marker colours this will speed things up too!
PRO TIP: Why not create a few panels while you have the stamp set in place!
Idea #2 – Partial Colouring
I know this is hard for some of us, but have you ever tried just colouring a portion of the image? This worked particularly well with this fish and balloons, but you could also do something similar with a variety of designs. Just colour the hat, or the cat in the car (I’ve done this) and leave the remaining parts of the image as ‘line art’.
Speed it Up?
- Stamp multiple images at once
- Use the stamp packaging for colour and colouring inspriation.
- Add faux splatter with a black pen (no wait for drying time)
- After colouring, restamp with a black pigment ink if using a stamp positioner.
Idea #3 – Outline only
How about no colouring at all? This can be done using many styles of stamp, from solid outlines like the one I used for this example, but it would still work with a regular line weight image. I decided to bring in a big font, which is where I added the colour for this card design.
Speed it Up?
- Line art only!
- Use a stamp positioner for the ombre style sentiment and then the ink layers can be stamped simultaneously.
- I stamped on an A2 panel, handy if you make a mistake like I did.
- My balance was ‘off’ so I was able to fix it by cutting the panel into a rectangle.
- No dimension for the panel or the black border and both were die cut to speed things up
Idea #4 – Multiple stamping
This time I stamped multiple images to create a quick scene, but I also stamped in coloured ink to step it up.
Speed it Up?
- Use a stamp positioner to stamp all of the images at once (take those extra few seconds to ensure the balance is right)
- Use a coloured ink
- No colouring!
- Adding a speech bubble sentiment added a fun element to this card.
CHANGE IT UP! Any of these designs could be easily adapted to use the images and products that you have in your stash.
