What’s louder than a bold sentiment? A bold sentiment with florals to match!
Who says only one element can take centre stage on a card? Today, I’m pairing bold sentiments with big beautiful florals… because sometimes more is more (in the best possible way).
Would you like a peek at today’s cards?

#BOLDSENTIMENTS-BIGBLOOMS
These two handmade cards show how to let large sentiments shine alongside impactful floral designs!
Card #1 – With Sympathy
This sympathy card has a quiet elegance, with soft ink-blended florals that fill the front without overwhelming it.

The large sentiment sits boldly across the design, clear, heartfelt, and impossible to miss. It adds balance to the soft background and helps guide the eye across the card in a really natural way.

Tips to try:
- Let your florals take up space, no need to tuck them into corners!
- Choose a large sentiment with clean lines so it’s easy to read against detailed backgrounds.
- Soften strong design elements with a muted color palette… think gentle pinks, soft greens, or warm neutrals.
- I added a few ink splatters to soften the look even more.

WOW! If you are obsessed with all things storage, then you will also love this new storage holder for Altenew’s Mini Ink Blending tools… it’s a game-changer and the brushes can be stored either way!

Card # 2 – Just For You
This card brings on the party in floral style! With a large floral bloom covering most of the background and a full-sized A2 shaker panel… the only thing that made it even better was to fill it with a ton of sparkly sequins.

It’s the kind of card that says “I’m here, I’m happy, and I sparkle.”

Tips to try:
- A transparent shaker window gives your sentiment room to float… literally!
- When both your florals and sentiment are large, use a central layout to balance the design.
- Or use floral placement to “frame” your sentiment to keep it from getting lost in the shuffle (or the shaker bits).
- Why not add the flowers to the outside of the shaker window.
- Add multiple words to create the exact sentiment you want, or why not use large alpha dies instead!

Sympathy cards are so hard to make. I like the way you had the letters raised in yours so that they are above the floral image. The message stands out, but lets the flowers show through. Love the full card shaker window. Fun card for anyone!

I really like the idea of hand making sympathy cards. This little touch of attention and caring will mean so much to the person going through a hard time. I’m going to have to do these cards and have them ready for when I need them. Thanks for your ideas.

Beautiful cards! I love the shaker card. Those sequins give the flowers just a little something extra. I love the use of big sentiments too. I do that often with my cards.
I agree Carole, bigger sentiments can really add something special to a card design.
Simply stunning, the bold sentiments take these cards to another level. I’ve always been afraid to use them in case I overshadowed the image below, but you have made them work so well, I’m tempted to give it a go. Thank you for the inspiration.
Marie
I did have a comment or two which mentioned too much covering the flower, but I thought it was a fun option… and I can always make the card again with just a small sentiment if I wanted more of the flowers to show 😉
