Are you ready to shake things up? 💃

Today’s LIVE was all about my design process – I showed how I plan, sketch, and create a gorgeous floral shaker card from start to finish!

Would you like to see what we made together?

#FLORALSHAKERCARD

I know that sometimes the design process itself can be a struggle, you look at a product and… nada! So today, I wanted to walk you through my own design process. This card started as a simple sketch, and during my LIVE I shared the whole journey – from planning and die cutting to layering those florals and building the shaker window.

✏️ Some of My Design Process Tips

  • Step away from the craft room. Take a pencil and the product that you want to use and take the time to look at it (away from its natural habitat).
  • Sketch out some simple ideas. Don’t make it too complicated.
  • Write down a couple of colour combo options or specific types of cardstock (like metallic or glitter).
  • Note any unique or fun variances that you can make using the set.
  • When it’s time to craft, you have your sketch ready to go and less wasted time procraftinating.
  • Don’t feel like you have to stay with the sketch exactly. Sometimes those “a-ha” moments happen mid-project, and you need to go with it… or make two versions!
  • Remember, plans don’t always work out. But that’s okay – we always learn something along the way, and of course, we’re doing what we love to do. 💖

Card Inspiration: Floral Bouquet

In today’s project, I took a wedding-themed die set and turned it into a beautiful floral shaker card – because who says those supplies can only be used for weddings?

STEP-IT-UP: I kept the background white on white, but some beautiful design paper would look amazing in that shaker window.

I had an ‘a-ha’ moment, which was to use ‘patterned’ acetate, this is a very old product and it was nice to delve into my stash.

BONUS TIP: Don’t have patterned acetate? Create your own, did you know that you can hot foil a pattern onto heat resistant acetate. And, you can use either hot foil or BetterPress plates to do this.

What would I do differently?

  • I was going for a non-weddingy card, but the colours I chose still made it look a bit like a wedding bouquet. It suits a ‘special birthday’, anniversary or engagement.
  • Next time, I’d switch things up with some brighter, bolder colours – and maybe skip the ribbon altogether.
  • And I would also like to try a version using the black patterned acetate… now, that sounds like fun!

Now it’s Time for YOU to Get Crafty!

I hope this floral shaker card inspires you to pull out your dies, sketch a few ideas, and create something beautiful. If you try this idea, I’d love to see what you make, share your version in the comments or tag me on social!

Don’t forget to watch the live video tutorial for a step-by-step guide – you can find it embedded above or over on YouTube.

Happy shaking, and as always, crafty hugs!
