Apparently, one rainbow card session leads to another 🌈
I recently joined an Altenew online workshop with my friend Michelle Lupton, who is a superstar when it comes to incorporating rainbows into her card designs. We made two rainbow floral cards using completely different techniques, and they’re a perfect follow-up to my recent rainbow stencil card video, where I walk through the process step by step if you’d like to take a look.

Two More Rainbow Floral Card Ideas
This workshop gave me the chance to play with rainbows in a slightly looser, more experimental way. Both cards use floral bouquets, but the techniques and overall feel are quite different – which is part of the fun. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
Card #1 – Watercolor with Embossed Vellum
For the first card, we created a loose watercolor rainbow background and layered an embossed floral bouquet on vellum over the top.

To step it up, we added the rainbow color, using alcohol markers, to the back of the vellum, letting it softly show through the embossed design. It’s a subtle detail, but it adds some serious punch to the vellum.

PRO TIP: Embossing on vellum can be a little tricky, ensure to use a powder tool to prevent stray embossing powder sticking, and add heat in shorter bursts, not too close to the vellum.

Card #2 – Ink Blended Floral Bouquet
The second card uses a rainbow ink blended floral bouquet for a bolder look. I used a different bouquet image (because why not 😄) and, since I don’t have the coordinating die, I fussy cut the image and popped it up on the card front.

This idea is similar to the cards I shared in my previous video, but this time it’s not a layering stencil technique. Instead of building up color in sections, we blended the rainbow over the entire design, starting with red in the centre, while the leaves are kept green for contrast.

The background is partially embossed using a graphic style embossing folder, and we angled the panel to give it a more modern feel. My bouquet ended up being quite large, so the angled embossing is a little lost – but it still adds a lovely layer of texture.

If you’re still thinking about it, there’s a little window left to save – not for long though (for more details click below).

Have You Rainbow’d Yet?
These two rainbow floral cards are a great reminder that small technique changes can completely transform a design. I hope they spark an idea or two for your next crafty session.
