In today’s live video, I’m putting texture to work in a fun and slightly unexpected way while creating a cozy critter card.
Lately, I’ve been enjoying revisiting old favourites and exploring embossing folder card ideas (watch more on the playlist here), and this card came together by letting texture do the heavy lifting. I’m using one embossing folder to create a soft, quilted bedding look and another to add a furry texture to the bear – simple choices that completely change the feel of the card.

When you let texture take the lead, you don’t need much else. This live focuses on using embossing folders in simple, stash-friendly ways to change the look and feel of a card without overthinking the process.
Unexpected Ways to Use Embossing Folders for Texture
- Die-cut petals, leaves & tree trunks: Add dimension and interest without extra layers, think woodgrain folders for bark.
- Critters and characters: Perfect for suggesting fur, feathers, or soft textures.
- Bedding and fabric details: Quilts, cushions, blankets, or rugs instantly feel cozier with texture.
- Clothing and accessories: Jumpers, scarves, hats, or bags benefit from subtle embossed detail.
- Everyday elements: Try baskets, woodgrain pieces, frames, or even die-cut sentiments for quiet texture.
Card Inspiration – Cosy Critter with Texture
This card idea came together by focusing on one simple goal: letting texture tell the story. A quilted embossing folder creates a soft, cozy base for the design, while a subtle textured finish adds character to this cute bear without needing extra colouring or layers.
By keeping the layout simple and the supplies minimal, the textures become the star of the card – proving that you don’t need complicated techniques to create something warm, playful, and full of interest.
But wait… there’s another one!
While I had my supplies out, I decided to tweak the perspective and balance of the original design. Using the extra pieces I already had on my desk, a second card came together – but this time I thought it would be fun to turn it into a panda… because why not?
And yes, I did chop the arms this time 😄
