Die Cut Faux Embossed Background
Today I’m sharing a fun way to create a faux embossed background using die cuts – no embossing folder needed! It’s a simple technique that adds texture and interest, and I’ve kept things tone-on-tone, finishing the card with a sweet shaker element.
• Use a simple die shape and repeat it to build up your background
• Try different shapes like sentiments, leaves, simple flowers or cover dies
• Keep it tone-on-tone so the texture looks like a single piece of cardstock
• Adhere die cuts directly to the panel – extra dimension can take away from the embossed look
• Use liquid glue so you have time to line everything up neatly
• Let the images hang over the edges to create a continuous pattern
• Allow the panel to dry before trimming any overhanging pieces away
This card was inspired by my friend Carly Tee’s gorgeous new Beary Sweet release – it’s such a fun and playful collection!
Card Inspiration – Repeat Sentiment Faux Embossed Background
The letters in this die set are separate, so to make alignment easier I created a quick template (you can see how I did this in the video above).
I couldn’t resist adding a shaker element – in honour of Carly Tee! 😉 And I used bright, fun colors to suit the Penny Candy Jar and keep the whole card feeling sweet and playful.
