Make it snappy! Big die, Big Hugs, and one very enthusiastic waving claw.
This was such a fun card to create during the Live! I used a large focal die as the star of the design, then added a layered frame, stencilled background, and a big squishy hugs sentiment to bring it all together.

Large Focal Die Card!
Do you struggle to use large images on your card designs? Here are a few simple ways to make a large focal die feel balanced and intentional.
TIPS FOR USING A LARGE FOCAL DIE
- Let the large die be the star of the design.
- Ground it with a frame, border, or background detail.
- Keep extra images simple so they don’t compete.
- Use a bold sentiment to balance the size of the focal image.
- Add dimension with foam tape to help separate the layers.

Card Inspiration – Meet Fred!
What could be more fun than a bright red smiling lobster? I think this card would cheer anyone’s day. And what I love most about ocean or sea-themed designs is that they are perfect for almost anyone – they can make great masculine cards, fun kids’ cards, or just a playful way to send a big squishy hug.
Today’s card focuses on bright, fun colors, but you could easily flip the palette and create a softer, more subtle version. Try blue-greens for Fred, with sandy neutrals or sage greens in the background for a calmer ocean feel.
What would I have done differently?
- I added a few ‘bubbles’ – I used Adhesive Dew Drops but sequins would work beautifully here too.
- I was also very tempted to add a small action wobble under on of the claws, or even turn the design into a shaker card… but thought it might be wise to give you an interactive card break today 😉
